Sky+ do I need the phone after 12 months

Found 9th Nov 2010
HI All

I use sky + and record programmes daily, do I need the phone line plugged in to use the recording facility. I;ve had Sky+ for over 2 years, but I'm trying to determine if the sky+ box is causing interference on the the line. at the moment it seems like its my router, but I didnt want to miss any recordings else i'll be in trouble

I've never had the phone plugged in, been with SKY for years and years.

You don't need the phone line plugged in after 12 months.

Recordings don't need the phone line either, you only need the phone line for interactive & box office.

I think you're supposed to have the phone line plugged in for the first 12 months so Sky can detemine if you're using the box they supplied, or something along those lines. If you use interactive or box office then you need the phone line plugged in too. Other than that, not having it plugged in won't do any harm...

Only really need it if you have multi-room so that you and your mate can't pay for one subscription for two boxes.

Never had mine plugged in.
The contract states that the phone line must be plugged in for the first 12 months, so after that feel free to unplug it (or unplug it any time before 12 months if you're feeling naughty!).

If you have a decent mobile, you can download an app which lets you set Sky+ recordings while you're out of the house. I use it frequently enough to not want to unplug...

My colleague believes such functions can only be witchcraft...bless...

Try only having your phone plugged in and seeing if you still have the same problem, do you have cable or phoneline internet?

I was going to say you need the phone lines plugged in if you have multiroom otherwise you get nasty letters from Sky.

Cheers for the information, I've unplugged the sky+ box, so we will see if I've got an improvement

I'm on a BT based line. If I unplug the modem its better

well the good news is that the interference has gone by unplugging the sky+ box, not sure why the box is causing the issue, but it will remain unplugged for the time being, thanks again
