Sky FreesatfromSky Hack : Is that possible?

Can you use the dish from Sky FSFS (http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/) offer to connect to a third party settop box (e.g. Technomate or Others)? Or is Sky equipment proprietary in nature? Sky is only charging £75 for installation at Dixons.

My old avatar would be so appropriate right now.

I'm a bit confused here...

:!:

All PSB channels should be going FTA whenever the BBC Freesat service goes on-line.

Much better to wait for that than messing about with the Murdochbox.

The sky dish and lnb can be used with third party equipment no problem. But I think the best channels are to had away from the Sky Digital Astra Satellite (where the dish is installed to point to), and the Sky Minidish is too piddly to pick them up

MSG, Could you provide me with more details about that? Are you saying that the "normal" subscription route is the better one?

First of all, yes you can connect any satellite receiver to Sky dish and this is perfectly legal. There are a lot of FTA (Free To Air) channels on Astra 28.2 (that's where Sky dish is pointing at). Most of Freeview channels can be picked from there apart from Channel 5 AFAIR.

Alternatively, you can get a bigger dish (these cost pretty much nothing these days), decent receiver (Linux-based one if possible) and start playing with it However, this will cost you more than Freesat from Sky
