    Sky+ HD

Ok, so it might seem a stupid question but please bear with me. Basically Ive been offered a Sky+ HD box for free by a friend leaving the country. I dont have Sky, nor do I intend to get it in the forseeable future so would it be of any benefit to take it off his hands? Can I connect it up and use freeview the same way Im already doing with my Goodmans recorder box or will nothing work on it at all unless its connected to Sky? Any help would be greatly appreciated as always. regards.

You'll need a satellite dish for starters.....

If you don't want it though, I'll take it off your hands as mine is on the blink

Can sell it for around £75 somewhere. lol

You don't need to pay Sky anything you can get all the free channels as long as you have a satellite dish to fit it to

Thanks for the info.. Out of interest why do people buy them them? If you have Sky+ already could you connect this up with any added benefit or would it be just about upgrading your subscription with Sky to get the extra channels HD offers? As a basic Sky box it doesnt offer any better picture to the regular channels than the Sky+ box does, does it?

If you already have Sky+, by replacing with a HD box you'd receive BBCHD and Channel 4 HD for free. If you want the other HD Channels (up to nearly 40 on a full subscripition package) you have to pay an extra £10 per month.

Picture quality is slightly better IMHO on the SD channels, as you connect via HDMI rather than Scart (I think it depends on the TV though, as some people find that SD looks worse on a HDTV)
