    sky hd help

this is probably a stupid question but here goes.. just bought a new telly only to find out it doesn't have any scart connections, loads of hdmi (4) but not one scart! so cant connect my sky+ box to it. anybody know how i can get it connected also if i bought a sky hd box say off e-bay or the like would i be able to get hd content without the £10 per month sub? any help would be much appreciated.

Do you have Phono in? Red, Yellow & White round holes? You can get a Scart to Phono lead for next to nothing which is pretty much the same quality.

if you bought hd box yes youd get hd channels but only the FREE ones otherwise youd have to pay £10

P.s if you did go down the hd box route, you'd get the free HD channels without the £10 sub (BBC HD and Channel 4 HD - possibly a few more).

Really? Not one scart? model no or ya lyin! :-D

hi, no theres no phono in.. and looking on fleabay the boxes are fetching around £100 think i might have to take the plunge and ring sky for a box, i know there will be the £10 sub but i can cancel the hd channels after my initial contract duration and still keep the box.. thanks for your input guys much appreciated.

its a samsung ue37b600vw led backlit type..

You might wanna have a look in the box. This is advertised with

    1 x Mini-jack point for SCART and 1 x mini-scart socket

I'm guessing this won't look like a typical scart in, but the cable with allow you to hook up a scart lead to the tv

How can any TV that doesn't have a standard Scart Socket be described as " great "?

I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

The tv and the display is amazing. These new LED screens also ridiculously thin. The reason it doesn't have a standard scart socket, I guess is to save room and make it so thin. Instead they have ports which you plug a cable into and connect your scarts to that. Same thing really. A lot of electronics companies move parts external to save weight and make their products smaller. Look at the PS2 Slim where they moved the power pack externally to make it tiny.

I still think its a great tv.

So you end up with an ultra thin TV with loads of external, non-standard cable connections all over the place..

    Great ( Not ).

Well not really, as all the stadard cable connectors are still there, just not on the body of the telly. It's moving closer to the direction of having one cable for all devices instead of the 20 I have at the back of mine. Anyway, personally I think its good.
