Sky HD - is this available?

    Hi everybody,

I do not watch enough TV to want or need sky plus nor any additional Sky based channels. I currently use an old sky box with a viewing card that I used when I was living with my parents as sky multiroom. I would happily pay for a Sky subscription with HD and plus but I just wouldn't get enough value from it.

I am therefore looking at options for going to HD without excessive cost. I would get Freesat HD but it misses sky3 and I quite like watching Road Wars. I could buy a Sky HD+ box from ebay or similar but it seems silly to waste money on a + box I couldn't use as I wouldn't want a Sky sub. Does a Sky HD (not plus) box exist that I could use to watch all the basic sky channels I get now through my viewing card but obviously HD?

Has anybody any experience to advise what may be the best route please?

    Thanks

    Nope.
If you want 'premium' HD channels from SKY (SKY1 etc) you have to pay for it.

    Thanks for the response.

I am considering this as an option but I already have quite a big AV set up and I was hoping not to add further to the number of devices I have!

Is it perhaps not worth it for the current line up then, unless I get a proper package from Sky? I just don't see the point in paying for something I might use for an hour or two a month.

I don't want or need premium HD channels, just wanted to experience BBC HD really, as silly as it sounds.

sky3 is not in HD, and sky3 is on freeview right?

I don't need Sky 3 in HD, I just like to watch Road Wars sometimes, but the other possibility as you suggest is to use freeview for Sky3 and just get Freesat HD.

My TV has freeview, that isn't a problem.

I have avoided explaining why it is a slight problem by not explaining my full AV set up, but I could probably manage. Therefore I guess the remaining question is whether Freesat HD is worth it.

i believe, at the moment it has one HD channel. this will change in time tho, not sure it what sort of time though, but as you can grab a box now for £30 + and it uses your existing sky dish, its maybe worth the costs.

i would add tho, im going with Sky HD, getting the box free, install free, and half price 6months. i just gotta see last season of Lost in HD

Cheers for the advice. I would be going for the Humax box I suppose as I find this is an area where you generally buy twice if you buy cheap the first time (been there with freeview boxes years ago).

I just hate the idea of paying Sky £20 an hour to watch a repeat, otherwise I would just get a Sky package.

its worth it for me as we have 3 kids, and there is me and my oh. there always something for someone to watch. But you right, pay as much as you can afford and a lil more, just so you dont gotta worry about reliability.
