If I have a sky box fitted in my bedroom as well as a sky hd box downstairs in the living room, could I buy a second hand sky hd box from eBay connect it in the bedroom and then phone sky and set up sky hd multiroom?

I pay for sky hd and multiroom with a HD box in both rooms but only get the HD subscription on the "main" box

Try asking them first interested but not interested in paying for a second box.

Yes you can, and they'll happily take another £10 p.m. from you for multiroom, and £10 p.m. for a second HD sub

Yes, but it will cost you an additional £10 per month for HD channels on it. (in effect 2 x £10)

Just to try and clarify, I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend, he has been quoted £200 for the supply and installation of a second sky hd box, as I have already stated he has already got the wiring in place for a sky box, paying for multiroom and hd is not the problem, the answer he is really after is, can he replace his sky box in his bedroom with a second hand hd box and then phone sky and get multiroom hd, and save himself £100+

Must be a sky + box in his room not a standard sky box

Saying that you can set the SkyHD box to single feed so yeah it would work, but he wouldn't be able to record to it.

Thanks for the replys, just found out that he doesn't have sky fitted in his bedroom, so he will have to wire in a new system, how difficult would that be?

Depends on the LNB he has installed...........if he has a Quad LNB then he can just run the wires himself but if it's not then he'd need to get one.

managed to get a free upgrade from my sky plus box to a hd on the multiroom can do it online thats when we had one already in living room

The thing with multi room aswell he will have to have it hooked upto the phone line aswell for the first 12 months, they don't bother you if you only have 1 box but they will if you have a 2nd box.

If he's subscribing to sky hd and multiroom shouldn't the box come free? Or has that address already received a free HD box?

Thanks phil but I don't think that's going to be a problem

Yes they have already recieved the free box, hence the £200 price tag

The thing is if he already had a sub if he is out of contract, then he could of just cancelled it and then got it through quidco and saved some money that way when he signed up again through someone else in the house if someone else live there.

If he has Sky+ on the multiroom sub then you can buy a SkyHD box and just switch round the sat cables (needs two). You won't get full SkyHD unless you pay the extra £10 a month but when you ring Sky to connect the card and box you can get them to just activate it as a Sky+ box and you will still get BBC HD and Ch4 HD.

I've heard of people being told they need a Sky HD sub to use the box at all but that simply isn't true as Sky only supply HD boxes now, even to Sky+ customers.
