Sky HD without the £10 HD package

Is it possible to get SKY HD without having to pay for the £10 HD pack yet?

I know Sky+ was the same then they dropped it, is this likely to happen anytime soon do you think? Anyone know anything? Sky engineers come on "dish" it!

I hope they drop the £10 price, I have a HD box atm. I dont pay for the HD pack so I only get BBC HD and C4 HD that are worth watching

I was only talking about this to the MIL yesterday...think I'll wait til it gets dropped. (and til I get a HD tv).

They'll soon probably have a 3d package too . lol

Sky have announced a 1TB HD+ box - not sure when its available.

They are also phasing out the SD Sky + boxes which means you will be able to get an HD box without the HD sub. Bear in mind you wont actually get (m)any HD channels without the £10/month sub.

You can sign up to SKY HD now without the HD Pack. If you go to Sky's website and sign up now you have the option of paying £49 + £30 for the Sky HD Box only, so without a HD Sub.

If you choose to take the HD Pack you'll get a free Box & Installation.

My HD box has been 1TB since the day I got it and immediately swapped it. Still 80% full though and dunno how people manage with less!

Anyway, I read a while ago that the £10 is not gonna be dropped any time soon. The £49.99 box offer was put in place to gain mass subscribers, and the £10 a month fee is to subsidise your cheaper HD box.

Thing is, they cant force an HD sub on you if you dont want it. There will be no SD alternative from now on.

If you want HD channels then yes they will charge £10, but if you dont you can still get an HD box.

Bit pointless though - having an HD box and no channels

For the £49.99 direct from sky deal you HAVE to take the HD pack for 12 months. No idea on other deals, and after that first year you can remove it.

But you'll still have BBC HD / ITV HD / C4 HD, which is all you'd get through Freesat HD, and most probably Freeview HD, anyway.

But with that you had the option of a standard def Sky+ box. That option is getting dropped.

They will probably charge something ridiculous for the HD+ box without the HD sub right enough

Yeah, I'd imagine in cases like that they'll charge the standard £149 + install fees for the box.

Seeing as you'd have to pay an extra £100, you might as well pay a further £20 and have a HD sub for 12 months.......... at least that's what Sky hope you'll do :whistling:

Sky only have BBC HD, Channel 4 HD and Luxe HD free, ITV is only available to freesat HD at the moment.

There's not much on there at the moment though - it's not a full simulcast of ITV (it's only really football and some of the movies). At all other times you just get a black screen

I would if I didn't have to buy and install a ridiculous motorised dish, and understand linux.

But after paying nearly £400 for it and then another £200 for a motorised dish then figuring out how to run it etc, what exactly can you view on it apart form the current free to air channels available of freesat? Is it just none english football and porn etc or is it any use for actual family viewing?
