I'm about to be connected with sky and can see the router is really basic. Am I able to buy a Sky Q hub from eBay or something? Or is the Sky basic hub not that bad?

What do you need it to do, over and beyond connect you to the internet?

You can buy one from eBay or sky for not too much. Ring them before they install for an accurate price. The basic sky hub is only 2.4ghz so the wifi speeds are poor. Though the new sky q hub is 2.4 and 5ghz so wifi is better

WiFi all around the house...

Sky Q hub has only got one Ethernet port.

Pretty sure they have 2, not at home now to check though.

Oops you are correct it does have 2, I require 3 myself other wise I would have probably upgraded.

I got the new Sky "Q" hub when I switched fibre from EE recently.
The Sky offering, though it has 2.4 & 5 Ghz is poor compared to the EE BB2.
I got it as an upgrade option for £20.
For internet throughout the whole house, you'll probably need a 2.4Ghz router, but form what I remember, the Sky offerings are poor.
Plus, as mentioned, it only has 2 ethernet ports (Why o why ?). And no MAC address blocking. It's very basic.

I have a BT Smart Hub now, so am I really going to notice a drop in performance when I go to the Sky hub 2.0?

The Sky Hub 3.0 is basically the Q but differently branded.

Why don't you switch off the wifi & DHCP server on the sky hub and use your bt router for that ?
