    Sky Install - Any problems?

Did anyone have any problems when they got sky installed?

They are coming out today (hopefully) but last time they came they said i wouldn't get good reception because of the surrounding trees. I find this hard to believe as 75% of the street has sky even my next door neighbour.

I reckon they bailed out as it is a little extra work. The dish would prob need to be at the front of my 3 floor house and the 2 boxes need to go 3rd floor back bedroom and 2nd floor back bedroom. which would mean a lot of cabling. i have a shed and conservatory in the garden so it is a pig of a job.

Any advice as to what i can do to make this happen today? Friend gave me fiends and family code so only reason im giving it a try again, but i really want it now :-(

I heard about that after they left last time.

I really hope its not the same guys, they told me they would rebook it and get a pole. They asked me to phone customer service a rearrange and when i did found that they had cancelled my order :-(

Have you got sky? If so how long did the engineer stay?

Not good mate, its a real pain when you're looking forward to something then it doesn't happen.

I was in a similar situation when I first had sky installed about 17 years ago, there's a huge oak tree at the bottom of my garden. The sky installer couldn't get a signal at all, so I got a private aerial installer to put the dish on a pole at the front of the house which looked east over the roof- and the tree as well. You could see it from miles away, as the dishes then were huge. The only issue was when sky went to digital, it took three visits before they finally got it changed!

Edit: One of the downsides to having it on a pole is when it's very windy it sometimes blows the dish off the satellite

    Tell me about it :-(

That might be the way to go, wonder how much it will cost someone to put a pole up these days.

We used to have sky many years ago but the trees are just to big these days.

Thing is i know come the 15th they prob still wont do it, even more annoying as im on A/L until the 7th so would of had plenty of time to channel surf

Sky are idiots. Had them round the second time yesterday and every time they have a excuse to not get the job done. First time they said the 3rd floor of my house is too high plus bad reception, waited another week for the special heights who came yesterday and the guy said its too slippery and doesn't want to risk his life. lol. The grass was just wet.

reading on the internet its a common experience of them making excuses. and their customer services were rude and never had another date till January. wouldn't be surprised if they made up another excuse for you. They can do it very easily but for some reason refuse not to.
So i called a private contractor instead, they'll get the job done, quick as well as save the hassle.
apparently Sky charge extra for each room u'd like to be wired.

How much was private? What did they do? Put the dish up or just the pole?
