SKY Plus options - really need some help ASAP!!

Went into a shopping centre today and was told two things:

- SKY do not do the SKY+ package anymore for new customers
- If I want a recordable additional box upstairs (for multiroom) then it will cost me £200

I wasn't aware of the above?

I just want the basic SKY+ package WITH Sky Sports with the multiroom attachment for upstairs. Is this possible or was the salesperson correct?

Very recently they have stopped supplying SKY+ boxes. They are now pushing there SKY+HD boxes, so have dropped the SD ones. Sorry about that mate

But I do not want to pay the additional £10 per month for HD channels - I don't feel that it represents value for money!

you can get the hd box without the £10 sub, but it'll still cost £199 for a multiroom box.

Their train set and they can sell the packages as they want. Sometimes you have to pay extra for what you want or not bother buying at all.

Cheers for all the info guys, can I not just buy a second hand SKY+ box for upstairs or do I have to shell out £199?!

Had a bit of a rethink with our new SKY package.

We shall be getting SKY+ HD downstairs and using a second hand standard SKY+ box upstairs in the bedroom.

As far as I'm aware we can record separately onto the two boxes and view whenever. What are the limitations (if any) of viewing/recording separately/simultaneously with the two boxes?

no limitations at all as long as you've got a multiroom sub

That's the thing, we've decided not to get multiroom - what are the limitations of this scenario?

if im right... (which isnt often) if you dont have multiroom..you will … if im right... (which isnt often) if you dont have multiroom..you will only get the free to view channels on your box upstairs...and tbh Im not sure it would work with the recording function...I was thinking of doing the same but wanted my sky channels upstairs...talk to sky though I managed to get my HD pack for nothing so dont mind paying for multiroom:thumbsup:

If this is true then this could be a problem.

I would like to record the footy on Sunday/Monday's and then watch at my leisure throughout the week. However I want to record it upstairs and not on the main box downstairs - is this possible?

you want to record the footy? the likes of match if the day is fine yes but you won't be able to record any premium channels on the box upstairs without multiroom so you won't be able to do it....., if that's what you mean?

Yes I meant the live football. So in summary I cannot record any SKY channels if I haven't got multiroom?

On another point, if I record the football downstairs can I watch it upstairs without multiroom?

These are the two scenarios that I'm pondering on - just wondering if it's worth the extra £10 per month as this will probably be all that I will be doing (along with recording some music channel programmes)

You could get a ]tv sender, so you watch the premium channel upstairs. Granted you will be forced to watch, whatever is be played on the main box upstairs (i.e. no indepenedent viewing). But it's cheaper and if you have a magic eye you could control the main box from upstairs. And you could still use the sky + box to watch free to view channels at other times.

But I would like the option of watching the premium channels when I want to as well as recording them if I'm out and watching them later. Is this possible without multiroom?
