    Sky Q on non-4k tvs

I have a friend who is getting Sky Q in a few weeks. He has about 7 TVs around the house, only one of which is 4k. He currently has sky HD plugged into an HDMI splitter, then into HDMI over cat 5 transmitters running to receivers on the backs of his tvs. My question is, if the sky q box is set to 4k, will his non 4k tvs show anything at all?

Surely it'll just show the video in the highest quality it can for that device and broadband speeds? Just like Netflix does

HDMI splitter may not work if it's not HDMI 2.0

No this will not work.. he would need to either drop quality down to 1080p or get a Sky Q Mini for the non 4K TVs and split the feed from this

it doesn't use broadband it uses the local wifi to connect the mini box to the main sky q box. it doesn't travel over Internet just the local network. so Internet speed won't make a differenc, unless your downloading from on demand.

I can confirm after having my sky q installed yesterday that the hdmi splitters are not compatible with the sky q box. I got a mini box for my extra tv

I think you can get the extra mini for £99 and then 2 other devices like apple tvs. So in total 5 devices. Why does your friend have 7 TVs anyway ?

It depends on the age of the TVs. Newer Full HD TVs are quite capable of taking a 4K signal and displaying it but older ones probably won't.

Because he lives in a £2m house and has a lot of rooms. I think he actually has more than 7 if you include projectors.

Thanks for all the info, pretty much as I expected.

Think I'll get him one of these

He can afford a 2m house but not multiview? oO

Good luck with getting sky q working. We have just cancelled our whole contract with them as sky q was nothing but issues from when it was installed. Did he not get the mini box as well?

I don't recall saying he can't afford multiroom.
