Sky+ recordings having left sky

Hi,

Google is not answering this exact query so hopefully someone can help as it is quite simple.

Will I be able to watch a channel 5 (SD) recording once my sky contract ends?

I know you can't view subscription recordings and I know you can't make new recordings (without paying Sky).

I recorded the X-files and the world might end if I don't watch it

Sorry everyone if the world ends in the next few weeks it's probably my fault.

That's not going to help him watch the channel 5 recorded programmes he has on his sky box.

Don't waste your time on the last X-files series, it was poor.

As for watching recordings on the SKY HDD, yes you can, however you'll have to take the HDD out the SKY unit, then connect it to a PC via USB HDD adapter (£10-20) then download some software ExPVR to read the file format to enable you the read the Free to Air / Free to View recordings, nothing from encrypted file recordings can be viewed, e.g SKY Movies, Sky Atlantic, etc.

Why don't you just watch it before your contract ends then?

I set my self the target of watching all the old ones first on Amazon and there is about a million of them and there is no way I will do it in time.

It is no biggie I will see them eventually and I might even have finished the originals by then.

I am a computer tech so extracting them from the HDD shouldn't be hard but I doubt I will bother.

hack into the box.
