Far from it. but you do get a bit of wear on it so it could appear darker around chip but this would be through a few years worth of use

only had sky for just over 12 months so not had it years... it is burnt all around the chip and on the other side it is really burnt and that half of the card is yellow whereas the other half is white?? bit worried oO just emailed sky so hopefully they will sort it

You will be without sky programming until a new card arrives, once it's ordered your old one switches off. 3-5 days until new one reaches you.

12 months is nothing in terms of what you've got going on. To burn through is extreme. Is your box vetilated, is there melting?
What box is it just out of interest

hmm doesnt sound too good that, maybe have a faulty sky box? post some pics up, big fire hazard that is, id ask them for a new sky box if i was you. if it got hot enough to look burnt look then any hotter and it could have started a fire in your house.

this is what I am worried about! I checked the card about 2 months ago and never noticed any difference in colour but now it is like someone has held a lighter to it?!

Yes it is normal, especially on these white cards.

Mine looks like that too on two different boxes.

I would argue that my card in fact was the normal one having no burnt areas or smouldering and lack of burning smell

Known it on all 4 boxes i have seen but only on the white cards
