slow shopping - for elderly, confused etc

Found 21st Sep 2016
gosforth seems to be the only store in uk so far!!
---
I felt inspired to come up with the idea of Slow Shopping®, providing a welcoming and safe environment for anyone who needed to take more time to do their shopping.

Slow Shopping® is inclusive and caters for those who suffer from anxiety or mental illness, those who struggle with communication or literacy, the elderly, those with dementia and all those who suffer from visible, invisible or intellectual disabilities.

Slow Shopping® advocates dedicated times within the week where store staff are aware of the particular needs of their shoppers and allows them time and space. Chairs are available as well as help points in the store. Customers are not identified as having additional needs and there are no specialist aisles or separation which can be the source of more stress.

As long as we can have fast shopping for the other times.

Yeah, thanks love for blocking the entire aisle with your trolley whilst you work out which bag of wine gums has the most sweets inside.

Can't they just do it online?

That would be wonderful, along with some remedial training in time management and the efficient chronology of actions required at the checkout. Getting your method of payment and loyalty card ready, plus personally checking if any of your random collection of coupons are valid whilst in the queue, and not waiting until after you have packed your bags, would be equally wonderful.

Why should we? I have a disablity one which makes it almost impossible to go out, almost to the point I'm housebound.

This makes it easier for them and me to be able to enjoy outside even if it's a supermarket, it gives us hope that we can live as normal as we possibly can whilst feeling safe!

That was just my bad sense of humour.

no as some spend to little to meet delivery thresholds and can't afford the additional expense

Just how slow will the slow shopping be?

By the time you get to the till some of the use by/best by dates might have ended!

Was in sainsburys the other day when some old dear dropped down dead right in front of me. Felt really sorry for her, she'd just bought a Bag for Life

Sounds nice doesn't it? Group hugs all round. All well and good until there's a fire or similar emergency.

Doesn't this happen every weekday, in every shop before 4pm anyway?

I wish is was before 4pm... they have all day and week to dodder around, but when I've finished on a Friday at work and want to get home to my family after collecting the groceries, there's always an abundance of old folk clogging aisles, tills and car parks not knowing what they're doing.

It's the same whenever I go to the Post Office...

Some seriously grumpy people on this thread. A supermarket is trying to make life a little easier for some people ffs, stop with the moaning

I prefer the store to be empty, did a load of Christmas shopping in tesco last year at 4am even the night staff were on break for part of my visit

our tesco is no longer 24hrs

Will probably be just like any other day for the people of Gosforth. X)

Errrrmmmm excuse me but you lot seem to forget you all will be elderly one day & will probably be the ones with the attitude that the world owes you everything, well guess what it doesn't. Well done for this idea of shopping, my dad is nearly 90 & has to shop to survive, oh & half of you wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for the elderly of today so butt out & leave them alone.....

surely this would only isolate the vulnerable in our society even further.
