    smacked my wheel up a kerb advice please

    took a nasty chunk out my alloy and a small chunk out the tyre, question is will i have to buy a new tyre? the chunk is about an inch long and about 1mm thick, it really is small but i know tyres arent allowed cuts in. also anyone have an idea how much it will cos to get the alloy sorted? theres a chunk out and the edge is all ragged

    bad luck.

    In my experiance kerbing an alloy wheel hard enough to take a chunk out of it usually causes more damage to the alloy than what one may think.

    I kerbed an alloy on a BM I had some time ago and the wheel ended up buckled, and although it was fine around town, whenver I got on the motorway and went over a certain speed the car would start vibrating. It took me ages to find out wth was wrong with the car.

    Alloy wheels are generally much softer than Factory Fitted Steel rims. I would test it on the motorway before paying for it to be repaired tbh, a replacement may be the best option if it is at all buckled.

    You can get a specialist to come to your work or house and they can do a repair on your alloy for around £50. The tyre i would replace for safety reasons.

    so whats the best way to find out if its buckled? can i just take it to a garage and they can find out? when i say a chunk i mean like the top layer of metal on the edge. i should have took a photo really as i wouldnt have thought it was bad enough to be buckled

    But if your tyre blows or you alloy shatters it will be one expensive test, and I'm not talking about the cash!

    Nice i went through 4 of them right to the last st500. Gavinlewishukd is right it would be one expensive test i would at least get the tyre replaced and the tyre shop to check the rotation on the wheel and then decide if you need a new wheel or a repair.

    im hoping just a repair. ive kerbed it a couple times so it needed recoating anyway but i havent took a chunk out this big yet, also the tyre has loads of tread left and the chunk out is tiny so im well gutted. i didnt know a tyre shop would be able to tell me about the wheel itself, may drive to one tomorrow... slowly lol. thanks for the advice, much appreciated!

    Yeah It is a nice car and a nice drive but missus mostly drives it as i work too far so i get the zetec s lol!

    This this this this!!! Its easier to buckle a weel than you think...

    Take it to a garage and they will put it on a machine that will spin it to see it it is true.

    had it checked out at 2 garages this morning! the tyre is fine, if it had been an inch higher though it wouldnt have been, just need to keep an eye incase a bleb forms from inside damage but they think it shouldnt. also the wheel is just cosmetic damage so getting it sorted on wednesday for £45. im so pleased its not as bad as i thought, and to celebrate ive treat the car to some autoglym stuff from halfords buy one get one free =)

    to be fair it was my bad driving that caused it lol. i love my st despite its faults haha
