And thought I'd quote this bit:

They have call centre staff????????? I thought it was just 1 bloke in a cupboard!

yes, that looks ominous doesn't it? paying backdated wages when they build up funds - oh dear.

and where are these funds coming from when high street stores are announcing big downturns in trading? is this really a time when people are going to be paying cash to CEX for overpriced used items? If this is nationwide, there will presumably soon be a clamour for people to purchase stock with their credit notes which will just make matters worse...

They have 3 or 4 people at customer services now :w00t:

This is the real reason my hubby was turned away last week when wanting to trade things in, the said they were too busy

I'd guess so. We should put this to the test. Everyone here with a CEX in their area walk in and claim you want to trade something - if everyone is refused we know they have a serious cash-flow problem

They are just under capitalized at the moment so hopefully things will pick up early next week . I can't get to the Edinburgh store till next Tuesday to use my vouchers :-(

I wonder if they'll have a closing down sale :w00t:

Well done on finding that masterbrown....

I think it's safe to say that noone will be able to get Cash for things, unless they are items that will pretty much sell lstraight away (maybe Wii Fit, for example),

I feel so sorry for the staff - some of them can't afford their rent :-(

Was thinking about taking a D900 into cex in Doncaster tomorrow for exchange. Should I try it?

Well, I'll be in there first thing tomorrow spending my credit notes - I certainly wouldn't be taking anything in to GET a credit note... not until things get back to normal (if they do)...

I would definately exchange it for something in store straight away anyhow. Probably not a phone on account of all the faulty ones they sell (I've taken plenty in!). The Mrs wanted guitar hero for her ps2 anyway.......

Oh look.. they're firing all their call centre staff...

Cool...that'd bring the price down in line with JUST ABOUT EVERYBODY ELSE!!?!?!

You know, having had 3/4 of a bottle of red and time during that process to mull things over, it would make sense that a company like CEX would be quick to disappear under the current climate. They are a cash-based company in a way most others aren't. That is, they depend on people selling cheaply (like a pawn shop) and buying at expensive prices. The former might work in times when the economy is depressed and cash is tight, but the latter is a recipe for disaster at times when people are trying to look after the pennies, Their whole business model depends on easy flow of cash. That's exactly what there isn't all of a sudden - it's called the credit crunch. RIP CEX?

EDIT: I still read CEX as 'sex' so the title of this thread is great!

i never realy got the point of the shop ( unless you find iteams with a higher sell on price )

would not like to think what % was knocked off gear and the price's where not wat you call hot for used goods in the first place.

:? or maybe i just missed the point :-D

When I phoned their customer "services" line once, the automated message actually did pronounce it sex. I think it could have been a deliberate ploy to get tongues wagging so to speak.

Does anyone know were I can find a list of numbers for individual Cex stores . The only I see is the 0845 one which is head office number . I'm looking for the Edinburgh store number .

Are you the same MrSharpshooter that posts on CEX's official forum? :?

Is this likely to be a problem across all stores or just this one?

In any case - I think I should start spending those credits now.

Did anyone notice how they made a big cockup during xmas with the Wii's. They overpriced them (for buyers) and offered too much cash/credit (for sellers) - a lot went unsold, and afetr xmas the prices slumped - so they were making a big loss.

The only stores its not really affecting funnily enough are the franchised stores lol (theres 18 btw, CEX own the other 49) thats because they pay the staff directly themselves. CEX are telling employees that they will pay them out of the tills Monday, but yet are insisting they pay all the petty cash straight into the bank in the meantime  wonder if the staff actually believe they'll get paid Monday

    Yes

If i was working for a company that was telling me i would be paid until they had money, then i wouldn't be working until they have money!

Too right  especially when they're saying "yeah we'll pay you Monday, but bank all the cash in the meantime" well dodgy that :whistling:

Staff have been paid , so it looks like business as usual for the time being
