Hi all,

I've been using a Smarty plan for the past month and speeds have been great for me (60-100Mbps)+ on 4g outside of Belfast in my house.

Today I've been unable to get a data connection indoors at all on 4g even though signal is strong . If I walk outside I get data connection again.

3 network status checker says everything is fine in the area. CellMapper says I am connected to Band 32+20 which I usually am.

Contacted Smarty but they just gave me basically reset APN, restart phone info.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to this?

I'm guessing issue might be a mast issue on the mast I'm connected to when indoors.

Thanks

Welcome to the '3' network which own Smarty.
You'll soon get to realise you can't rely on them to give you what you paid for, in my home I got 4 bars of 4G signal and quite often 0.5Mbps or even less of data speeds.
I now use Voxi and with less signal I regularly get 30Mbps or more.

Maybe something in the house knocking the signal about recently?

A reboot is always the first point of call and even if you dont have any problems its always worth reconnecting too a few times a day. I find mine slows down after a few hours if I am on same connection all day. (edited)

Have a go with this app it has connection info, you can see which masts in your area are available which band etc

Smarty wouldn't work for me when I sat in the central part of my local pub so I found myself having to sit beside the walls. I've now switched to Lebara which is Vodafone IIRC. Belfast here also.

I guess it's just the luck of where you are. I had no other problems with Smarty, just found the £1.99 deal for 5 months too good to resist.

I think that offer ends today but the 5 months don't start until you put the sim into your phone. If you do go for it, just use up your allowance on Smarty before putting the sim in.

Same I was on 3 and they never bothered sorting out my WiFi signal so left after 15 years.

One thing to try, shut down phone and remove sim.
    Restart phone.
Shut down phone, replace sim and turn on.
It did the trick with my 3 sim.
I have had a sim or 2 go wrong.

I had a very similar issue on three and it was never resolved so I had to terminate my contact early. Even with full bars of 4G inside, apps would still show no connection. Hopefully you have better luck (edited)

Absolutely the same issues here, I'm based in Bournemouth, joined smarty 2 months ago, first month no problems, 2nd month, full signal bars, 0 data speed, they said that there is maintenance work scheduled and should be fixd by 9th july, now they're saying 13th July... The thing is, I did some travelling last week, that the experience is similar in London, Bristol, Bournemouth surroundings, Weymouth, everywhere, and they just say it's because the area there is congested, absolute morons

Thanks everyone. I'll give it a few days and if not resolved will try other networks.

No new purchases or anything different in the house within the past month. I have always got the best speeds near the bedroom windows (100-150Mbps) but around the house averaged between (30-60Mbps).

As of today near windows the data connection is perfect, but as soon as I move away from the windows signal stays full but browsers give "No internet connection" error and speed tests fail.

I tested an old Smarty sim I had before I signed up to the unlimited plan, it has the same issue. I also tried my current sim in an old phone and getting the same issue.

I would assume the phone must be connecting to a certain mast when walking around indoors, which is having issues with 4g and a different mast/band with 4g working when I go near windows, but could be wrong.

02 speeds are dire here as are Vodafone. Thought I had found the perfect network in 3/Smarty but seems like maybe not if the issue persists. Looks like EE might be my last hope.

Thanks for the help and suggestions everyone.

Confirmed with a family member about 10 minutes walk away from me and they have the same issue.

I agree, must be a network fault on a particular mast with 4G.

Asked Three support on Twitter about the issue and received this.
