Smoking... Have you tried to give up?

We gave up smoking in October last year...

It has changed our life tremendously...

We have so much more extra money and we feel healthier...

Have you given up smoking or tried to?

Yes, gave up almost a year ago. It's scary how much money I've saved since then.

Can't believe how much they are now too. Took the kids out the other day, and I was stood next to a ciggie machine. It was £6.40 for a pack of 16 !!

    gave up 5 years ago

cant believe i smoked for all them years, still worries me the damage i must of done to my lungs!

i still would like one every now and again though

I gave up by sheer will power alone 2 years ago in August. I still fancy one everytime I have an alcoholic drink though.

Ask for Zyban from the doctors...

    You will stop...

I gave up on Jan 1st 2007, after smoking for around 10 years! (Im only 24 now)

Best thing i've ever done! :-D

Edit: This was through willpower alone!

I also gave up in january last year.

No will power required, just self belief, if you believe you can do it you will do it.

Smoking is the biggest con ever.

I gave up in July 2001 and it's the best thing I ever done.. I used the patches everyday for a week and then I gradually left the patches on longer until the patches where left on for days... I am a different person since I stopped.....

i would like to think myself as a confident person but i cannot give up - i dont want to really - silly thing to say i know - i agree with you when you say its a con - yep -

roll my own though and i am still saving money wha i would have spent on packets
my o/h has never smoked - cant understand why i do - lol- sometimes with debate!!

I want to but keep putting it off every time the weekend rolls around! Getting chronic chest infections at the moment, so really should consider it!

We used to roll our own because of the chemicals in taylor made cigarettes...

We have still saved an arm and a leg... (Or a Heart and a Lung)

3 days after giving up, i was asked if i would be on a panel testing cigarettes...

Effectively making smoking free for my feedback...

Tried to give up a few times....
    2 weeks was my best
Problem is....I enjoy them too much..sad isn't it

Sister has been smoke free for about a year now. She feels so much better and has tonnes more cash to blow on things more worthwhile than cigs (anything).

My dad has been a smoker his entire life and it messed him up badly. He stopped fully a couple of years ago and he's all the better for it. Just a shame he didn't take the iniciative years ago.

Well done for giving up and keeping hold of your hard earned cash & good luck to anyone who's thinking about it!

My parents smoke,my Mum tried to quit a few times I recall.
Last time she tried patches, now she always makes sure she has fags in,but the patches she got lazy with, and she didn't have 1 in to put.So by the morning she lit up as still had fags left.
To be honest,I don't think she really wants to quit, and I think the patches are cheaper than buying the fags so it was no excuse not to have the patches in.

I've seen people get the patches anyway on prescription in Boots so she could always do that,I think you might get them if you attend a clinic.I don't think she can be bothered,I think she wants to smoke more than she wants to quit.

My Dad can qui but smokes cos my Mum is,yeh it's really stupid.

I feel quite annoyed by it actually, cos I would say I'd gone without as child at many times, yet they always been able to smoke, and to me it's 1 of the biggest wastes of money a person can get trapped into.

thanks i will book an appointment and ask for them, its mad as the nurse gave me champix but when i went back to get a repeat prescription the locum doctor questioned why they had given me champix as apparently i shouldnt really have them due to a thyroid problem.

My Mum says it's more addicted than Heroin, dunno if thats true,or if she says that cos she knows her willpower bad so makes it better somehow.

I gave up 10 years ago. After numerous failed attempts using patches etc, what finally did i for me was reading Alan Carr's book on how to stop smoking.

Bizarre really, it's the only self-help I've ever read, and I was so full of disbelief that it would make a difference, but it got through to me where health scares & family failed, so I heartily recommend it.

    Best of luck

I gave up 5 years ago, on the day I found out I was pregnant (had been smoking for about 11 years) - I still crave it now and again though

I gave up 5 years ago & feel brilliant ... wish I had done it a lot soomer .. yes & have lots more money to waste too now !!

never smoked and never want to, have parents and friends whom smoke and i make them stand outside on the balcony lol

Gave up November 2005...first time I had tried to give up so am pleased I did it and have stuck to it

You're just saying that because you don't want to fail.
If there was a single tablet which would stop you smoking overnight, i bet you'd take it

I smoked for 20 years but decided i didn't want to influence the younger members of my family to smoke, plus the wasted money was a joke.

I read this, the pic's are haunting.

    ]http//wh…tml

Cut down from 20 a day to 3, then after a week stopped completely.

I'm not a moaning reformed smoker, but just ask youself why don't ya quit :?

Smoking is not addictive, get that out of your head. When was the last time you heard of anyone stealing from thier grandmother to fund their smoking habit.

When you are forced not to smoke, say on an aeroplane it doesnt make you physically sick, unlike a heroine addict who gets very sick when they dont use heroine.

The con about smoking is they constantly tell you that it is addictive and very hard to stop.

If we all stopped where would the tax shortfall come from? :x

Tax or no Tax, it's not a con....smoking is and can be very addictive. Only difference is that nicotine withdrawal is not as severe as a drug users' because of the way it affects the brain
