Hi
I live down south, but when I flew out to Turkey in August, I could only smoke outside before you go through security. I dislike flying also, but managed to keep myself busy.
I don't know where you are flying too, but even at the Turkish airports smoking is very much a no no and they are a nation of smokers.
Good luck, just keep busy.
Try not to worry, 6 hours will be a doddle, try 23hrs direct to Australia or a 24hr trip to San diego with 3 plane changes :whistling:

You are bit stuck at Manchester all the smoking haunts have gone unless someone knows better, You will have to stoke up outside, and maybe try a nicotine patch, to get you through, I am ok if I know I cant smoke, it doesnt bother me.
You can still smoke at Schipol and Charles de Gaulle airports :-D

Whatever you do DO NOT try the old trick of smoking in the loo, and repeatedly hitting the flush button, I was on a plane from Munich to Manchester, and a guy sparked up in the loo, and we diverted to Heathrow where said guy was arrested and hauled off the plane. And one of the trolley dollies said after any criminal charges he would be billed for the diversion costs, which would be quite a few grand.
No sorry mate - My friend works for one of the airlines out of manchester, and I flew a few time last year after the ban, and its outside, before security i'm sorry to say!
No enclosed public space allows smoking, anywhere within the UK

jeez i thought so,thanks for your quick replys, will have to go for patchs then:oops::thumbsup:
I don't think you can smoke at Schipol - they went smoke free on January 1st. We flew out to San Francisco on 28th December, schipol was all smokey, came back on Jan 2nd - totally smoke free
Sorry, its a defo no, no.

Don't worry the 6 hours will "fly" by (sorry for that!) might be a good idea to use a patch or something.

Hope all goes well.
Letting you back out would kinda defeat the object of security - and of course designated smoking areas are now banned.

dont go trhough security till you need to, flew from east midlands last year and left it till last minute before going through security (didnt want to say goodbye to daughter -lol) by the time i had been through security and been into one of the shops for a drink it was time to board
Chewing gum? You can also get gum too for people wanting to quit smoking.Eat & drink once you get through security and on the flight there will be refreshments possibly a meal too.If your travelling on your own, make some conversation with others, take your mobile phone if you have one and call / text people.
I've never smoked so can't understand how much you will need a smoke.

Good.

Doing this has brought aircraft down, so this has my complete support. I bet he wont do it again - and the more that know of these consequences (which are obviously going to be more important than potentially losing theirs and every passengers lives) might make them think again.

I wouldnt recommend this at certain airports (e.g. gatwick). It can take over an hour to get through security these days. Defeats the object slightly when 200-300 people are all crowded in a very small area BEFORE the security check
