Sad, but he was really ill and looked absolutely awful and unrecognisable the last time I saw him in the news. Such a shame.

    yep - georgie best syndrome

    brilliant in his day -

    RIP Alex. LEGEND!

    Was it due to smoking?

Mad as a box of frogs, but a great showman-made possibly the greatest break under pressure ever seen in his semi final with jimmy white in 1982.

The snooker stablishment HATED him,but he made the game a tv phenomenon. Nowadays all we have is boring, mineral water sipping robots. Higgins was a legend. Sadly, just like gazza he drank/gambled it all away. Snooker would never have reached the audiences it did in the 80s/90s,if it wasnt for alex.

Yea he never had no money left and was broke from what i have read

A friend of mine used to run a pub in Denton, Manchester where Alex occasionally called in for a drink. Very sad news this but not surprising i'm afraid . RIP Alex .

I've got a piece of chalk he flicked to me (threw at?) 20-odd years ago outside the Royal Exchange. He was my hero at the time.
Only Ronnie O'sullivan can touch him for natural talent.
    RIP Alex.

Alex use to come into my local in Heald Green "Griffin" in the the '80s so sad that he's gone
