So I got my Pac number and need advice on new tariff

Need to get a new phone as the last one was playing up a lot. I want to get the HTC Desire cos Ive heard so many good things about it and have found the following Orange tariff through the carphone warehouse which I thought was quite good

    Free HTC Desire Handset
    * 300 minutes Anytime Any network
    * Unlimited texts Anytime Any network
    * Unlimited Internet Anytime Any network (I am aware of the fair usuage allowance)

for £25 per month over a 24 month contract

Plus I would get £40 via quidco

I dont tend to use a lot of minutes so 300 is fine

So do you guys think its a good deal or do you know of anything better out there?

Not the best deal from my perspective.
Which network did you get the pac code from?
What was the best they offered you as a retention deal?

O2 but it was on one of those pay monthly deals rather than a traditional contract so they didnt offer me anything that good

why don't you think its a good deal?

It doesn't seem too bad, but not that great either, have you considered going for a redemption deal at onestopphoneshop or mobiles.co.uk type company? They have some 18 month contracts with 8 months half price or so. Don't forget topcashback or quidco either - it should be about £40 if you go through the mentioned companies.
I'm after an HTC desire for my father, he's with o2 carphone warehouse and I want him to stay with o2 as the rest of the family are and we get free or cheap calls between all of us. Do you know if you get a PAC code from o2 cpw if you can port your number to o2?

I thought that your PAC code automatically ported your number!

What do you mean by a redemption deal, are those companies reliable etc?

mobiles.co.uk have the same deal as you found but they have 12 months half price by redemption so you get £150 back if you remember to send in the details as per the redemption rules

Redemption deals are ok if you get them from legit companies like e2save, mobiles.co.uk etc, have a look online for reviews.

A few years ago I couldn't port an o2 number to a new o2 contract, you could only upgrade not start a new contract and move the number over (I hope that makes sense!), I was just wondering if that is still the case.

And you should definitely try and get some cashback via topcashback or quidco, it'll take a few months to pay out, but always nice when it does (I reccommend tcb over quidco).

I used mobiles.co.uk a few years ago, so long as you send the forms and bills within the specified timescale and send it recorded delivery you shouldn't have a problem

From my own expereince you tend to get the best deals through retentions. The deal you're quoting is very average with most networks offering similar. I was offered the same deal as a retention offer by 3 at £18 per month on 24month contract. But didn't take a I'm more interested in getting the cheapest deal with most minutes. Three are obviously the cheapest but some people have issues with that company, but I've been fine, so am happy to stick with them.

At the moment they've offerd me a basic Sony T715 with 900 mixed mins/texts and unlimited internet for £10. I'm still hoping they'll go lower.

If you were on a rolling contract I would have stuck with it until something decent came up, then snapped it up and ported the number over.

I needed to get a new phone and that was the primary reason for me changing, waiting for an amazing deal to come up wasnt a choice.

Anyway, I think its quite a good deal. I dont need hundreds and hundreds of minutes, 300 is more than enough, the unlimited texts and internet are more suited to my needs. And the free HTC Desire handset is good
