What should I order?

I often order a Lamb Tikka Masala but I would like something a bit spicier, but not too spicy.

Any ideas?

madras every time for me. cant beat it for taste and heat.

Chicken tikka mushroom balti with a garlic naan ................ mmmmmmmm

How about a lamb Tikka Massala ( your usual ) and ask 'em to make it Madras hot, see how it compares to the normal one, that way you'll know if you really want it hotter or not

Try a Chicken Phall......I promise you.....it'll be a night you'll never forget. :giggle:

I haven't had a curry in a while but it depends....do you like your curries to be quite creamy or do you prefer hardly any sauce etc?

Wish I was going out for a curry, but nobody else in my clan eats it....so we are going to Pizzahut

Vindaloo.

Have a special lamb tikka bhuna.
or a chicken tikka jalfrazzi

I like the creamy with a lot of source, like a Tikka Masala, just a bit hotter.

NIGHT he'll not forget? Try night, morning and majority of the following week. Hope you have a nice bathroom....

Rogan josh or Dupjaza (spellings probably wrong on that second one) are my favourites, or a Balti depending on where I'm getting it from.

you know most decent curry restaurants will cook stuff to order don't you? If you want a hotter Tikka Masala, ask for one. I only learned how flexible they're prepared to be after I went out with an Indian lass who ordered all sorts of things that weren't on the menu... best curry I've ever had too!

salt.

my kind of thread lol. my family own an indian restaurant and i happen to work in there lol. few dishes. chicken pathia (sweet & sour) or try the chicken dupiaza + cheese. or chicken tikka massala if ur a bit boring. best sellers. lol

Yeah but I would like to try something a bit different.

bhunas are nice too. usually a bit mild for my taste but my fiancee always finds them hot.

Lol, I knew someone would know what that is. lol
I ordered it with my friend as part of a dare.....he we had 2 huge bottles of water and he ended up drinking practically all of them and the next day he asked me if I had flames shooting out of my ass too. :giggle:
Honestly.....you should of heard him explaining his misery while I was laughing it off.

This is how the next convo went when I ordered a Chicken Phall again:

ME: Hi can I have 2 Chicken Phalls and 2 Pilau rice and.....
TAKEAWAY: I must warn you sir, the Phalls are extremely hot.
ME: It's ok, I had it last week, so I know what it's all about.
TAKEAWAY: No sir, I don't think you understand, it's extremely hot.
ME: Thanks for the warning.....but I had it last week and I know what I'm in for.
TAKEAWAY: Ok, but please remember that I warned you and understand we are not responsible.

I thought you might say that, I would highly recommend a Korma or Pasanda, as they're both mild and extremely creamy but I prefer the Pasanda out of the two.

Both dishes are mild, so tell the restaurant how strong you want the dish and they'll do this without any problems without effecting the sauce or taste.

Here's info on the Korma:

A traditional korma will have a long slow cooking. In fact, korma is not one particular dish but rather a method of cooking similar to braising. Because korma is a cooking method there are a wide variety of dishes that could be described as "korma". Many kormas call for the meat to be marinated in yoghurt and then the meat plus marinade are braised on a very low heat until all the juices condense down into a thick sauce. The restaurant chef has to cook to order so doesn't have time for long, slow cooking. The korma you find in Indian restaurants usually contains ground almonds, coconut and thick cream. It is often described on restaurant menus as being "very mild" but a good korma should not be bland.

Info on the Pasanda:

The pasanda is traditionally made with thinly sliced and marinated lamb fillets. It is sometimes called lamb badam pasanda because the dish contains ground almonds, the "badam" of the title. The dish pasanda is usually quite mild and contains ground almonds, cardamon pods, puréed tomatoes and cream.

Hope that helps and edited the text, as there was a lot of irrelevant info but now I'm starving. lol

Cheers for that, may go for the Pasanda.

I tried the legendary Vindaloo while at Uni and enjoyed it, bit of a dodgy stomach the next day but nothing I'd complain about and it really wasn't as hot as everyone had made out.

I decided I could probably take a Phall. I decided wrong. I managed half of it and had to give up for fear of my face exploding. I don't think even taking swigs from a bottle of Tabasco could compare to how hot it was. The only other thing I've had that comes close is Japanese wasabi, which is like English mustard on steroids.

re the bottles of water, that only makes it worse! Beer is the only thing that cools a curry burn, everyone knows that :-D

who cares, spammed ;-)

How does a Jalfrazzi compare to a Tikka Masala?

jalfrezi is made from chillies n peppers where as masala is more of a paste like a proper curry,
being indian id have to recommend a jalfrezi but, ask for an "apna style" curry.
its more tastier n more flavouring coz its hotter slightly

OK cheers. Maybe I don't want a jalfrezi then?

Wow, I really don't know what to order.

what you want is a chilli lamb tikka massala, its exactly the same but cooked with chilli's for a hotter taste, I'd say it has a small kick but no where near as hot as a madras. Personally i'd have a Madras everytime but perhaps the chilli massala could build you up to it for next time!

south indian garlic chilli chicken yum yum!

you could always go for a Dhansak often listed in a speciality section of the menu(sometimes listed as a Persian dish) rather than in the "main curry" bit. it is medium hot with lentils in the sauce but it has a sort of hot and sour flavour. really nice for a change. sometimes it comes with rice as standard so check before ordering separate rice.

lamb vindaloo with keema nan and a pint of cobra or tiger, and a cup of milk...cant go wrong.

Nah, allow the vindaloo, that's not ma style.

But TBH I will be quite drunk by the time we actually have the curry, so anything will taste good.

I love spicy food.......you should see how much chilli sauce I get on my kebab....so much so, the owners started complaining when I kept asking for more. lol

I thought the Phall was hot but I managed it without problems....which is why I started having dares with people.

I didn't know that's why people always drink beer at indian restaurants......obviously they're all cheaters. haha

Order the Pasanda for your creamy curries and you can't go wrong and tell them how spicy you want it, e.g keep it as it is (mild), medium (madras heat), hot (vindaloo heat) or if you're a soldier like I am with spicy food, try the phall (health warnings) lol.

You cheater.......I'm so disappointed in you, as everyone knows milk is a good way to avoid getting drunk.....I'm not taking you to our exclusive clubs then...I know you'll just cheat the night away. lol

Gotta agree with you on the Keema nans though, I used to love those.
