    So my PS3 just died

I bought a pre owned PS3 slim from Gamestation going on four days ago now and i've just turned it on to get a red screen and "A serious error has occured" message. Tried restarting it, holding the power button down for three beeps etc... nothing but a red screen.

Anything else i can do myself or can i just go straight back to gamestation to get a new one.

Lol yes i'm serious, i put the joke part because i've had it all of four days. I went onto the safe mode just now and did a system restore and it's working again now. All game saves, videos etc.. gone though. Is it worth taking back to the store or will they just say "well it's working now..."

    Take it straight back mate.

    Mike..

Yeah i'm going to have to, i knew i shouldn't have gotten a pre owned console.

ohh kl take it back asap and get your money back or a replacement, if they offer to fix it dont accept because no doubt it will break again. Hope all works out for you

Well i traded in loads of old games and my old ps3 (which i traded in because i thought it was so old that it might break soon..) so i'm guessing they wouldn't give me cash back, they'd just give me a trade in voucher.

doubt they would do anything if its working now else we'd all be taking stuff back and claiming 'it didnt work the other day' when we got bored with it.

I bought it four days ago and i'd be wanting a replacement, so i'm pretty sure they will.

Just turned it on again now and the error screen is back. Returning it today.

The person that traded it in was probably trading it in because it had an intermittent fault.

Keep us updated, interested to see how this goes for you

I took it back today and they gave me a replacement console straight away. They told me that i should try remember the error code and when i explained there wasn't one just an error message they kind of gave me a look as though i was stupid and said that PS3's fail very rarely. Clearly.

Yes because Gamestation have a clue about what they are doing or saying.

The phat i had from launch day didn't have one problem in four years, the slim breaks after four days. The red screen which sony assured me is "extremely rare" seems to happening to a lot of slim owners lately.

It really is that rare for ps3 to fail that I'm on my third one.....

I've had two brand new slims break on me. The Blu Ray drive on one made a grinding noise and refused to work, and the other got YLOD. All within a week of purchasing new.

I've also had several phats break/almost break on me. Either the fan kicks in stupidly loud or the dreaded YLOD happens.

Imo, they are as prone to break as much as the older Xbox 360s (maybe not the first non-HDMI models :P)
