So why are all the Manchester United Fans carrying burning torches and pitchforks? ............ Oh wait!

OK, so yesterdays hero has decided he no longer wants to play for the club. It happens from time to time and whilst I can see this can hurt, I really find it hard to accept the mentality that has gone along with this.

He's asked the club if they have the finances to buy the new players he thinks they need after apparently becoming a selling club in the last couple of seasons because of the huge debts. Seems fair enough.

He's fallen out with Ferguson who lied to the media to try to get him pulled out of England matches by claiming he's injured. Is he wrong to feel angry at that? I dont think he is.

And now its become fashionable to stand outside his house wearing a hoodie and ready to attack him it seems.

He is / was a talent and will be a great loss to the club, so I can empathise with that aspect of all this.

But he has just given Manchester United knowledge that he doesnt want a new contract, giving the cash strapped club time to sell and get his full value. Something that should be aplauded I'd say.

Ferguson is a good manager, there is no doubt, but he's pretty ruthless and nasty when it comes to the mind games. It seems he's done to Rooney now exactly what he did to Tevez. And for what reason other than the club no longer has the finances it had a few years ago. There is no way he wanted to sell Ronaldo and Tevez and now Rooney - particulalry when there are no replacements coming through and Scholes, Giggs, Van Der Saar all need to be replaced and no money to buy.

I'd agree with anyone who wants to say Rooney is greedy, ugly, unfaithful, out of form etc. But my take here on this transfer is Ferguson is the one that needs the examination.

Lets be fair. What would your feeling had been, if he did what Campbell did at Spurs (where a £24M bid from Madrid was turned done) and delayed until he went free on a Bosman? On that note - i read today that Villa fans should be concerned with their star winger deciding that he wants to concentrate on his football rather than sign a new deal now. Thats what Campbell said! Be afraid Villa fans!

Anyway... there will be life after Rooney.... but do all you Man utd fans all think everything is down to him and the points made above no substance?

    .

I hated Rooney, but now I love him again.
But it did make me so sad, I cried.

Did they think the same when Ronaldo and Tevez left?

First - i'm not UNited fan, my team not even in Premiership!

Think the fact 6 months ago he was saying he'd be there for life may have something to do with it - he's said this stuff a few times - now i know players always say this, kiss the badge etc then leave - perhaps they need to think more before making these kind of comments

Don't most players make those sorts of comments and kiss the clubs badge? Hell - look at Robbie Keane! it's embarrassing the number of clubs "he supported as a kid".

The fact remains, in the last few weeks, things have happened in his life. One is well documented and I'd suggest his marriage is more important to him than Manchester United FC. Secondly, he's seen Liverpool FC virtually fold because of their debts. I'm guessing the media coverage there and the bigger debt from the Trafford club is enough for him to ask more questions before committing. he did ask... they refused to anser.

Well after all three going I think it's an accumulative effect.

Just seen the "die rooney" Nike signs, oh dearsome people need to get a grip.

If he joins City I think it shows the shift in power. Basically Rooney would be saying United have not got the ambition City has.

    I'm not upset

IMO I think Rooney is right.

I'm hoping its a kick up the ass that the club needs, but bare in mind Fergie has to be loyal to the club weather he agrees with Rooney or not, it's his employers... I think the main reason Fergie looked upset on Tuesday was that becuase he knows he's right and there's not a damn thing he can do about it.

For me the club have to spend to have any chance of making money through prize money, tours, sponsorship and merchandis sales.

People standing outside his house are mindless idiots who are angry, but don't really know who to be angry at, I know fo sho I wouldnt want to be the only star at a club trying to carry them, and for a player like rooney who thrives on winning I can see how he could be frustrated.

As long as he doesn't go to City or Liverpool, he can go if he wants.
As a life long Man U fan it hurts to see a player of such quality leave but if he doesn't want to play for us then he has to go, simple as that.

I can only see him going to Chelsea really as Spain won't suit him, he'd never learn the language, and no-one else (bar City) can afford him!

Police helicopter has been over Manc a lot today, are the hoodies still protesting outside his house lol

And he'd be correct. So you think the real anger is down to the shift in Power both within premier league football and the City of Manchester thats the real reason for this unprecedented show of anger.

I agree with Jay above. I'd feel the same way... "if he wants to go, fine, as long as we get a good price and doesnt sign for our rivals."

I just posted this thread purely because I'm really asking if feguson is trying to paper over the cracks here.

It seems that something has gone on behind the scenes between Fergie and Rooney.

Utd are in a state of decline. Theres no two ways about it. £80 million losses, reliant on players in their mid thirties, manager approaching 70. Plus the fact that two of the best players in the world (will) have left the club in 2 seasons to win trophies elsewhere is a huge blow to the clubs image.

What is funny is the Utd fans moaning about the lack of loyalty from him. They seem to forget that the lad is a blue nose from Croxteth - he should despise everything associated with Manchester. Plus this is a club that have gone and signed players from other clubs and stated that the player wasn't being disloyal but rather wanted to win trophies, well the shoe is on the other foot now and it doesn't fit too nicely does it

When it comes to the majority of bitter United fans, don't include a few of my friends irl with this but they tend to be blind to facts and changes, City are free atm to buy there way through this challange and the next along with Chelsea, the only clubs that look like winning anything arn't servicing massive debts, Spurs (strong squad) and Arsenal. So City rivalry is bound to be strong. Tbh United have been lucky to win the last time they won the Premiership if Rafa had not of played Mind games with a far superior Sir Alex it would of been Liverpools, so really I don't think United have been as strong for years, and won't likely be as strong as they need for the next few years if they go the way they are.

    Are you calling me bitter?

I might be twisted but I am definitely not bitter

I can't get the rumour of Coleen insisting that he moves to a foreign club as a part of his return to family life promise. Utd fans are upset because there mantle is slipping away and they know it. They cannot turn on SAF who has in turn backed the Glazers. Once the hype has died down the fans will realise that it is either SAF or the Glazers who are truly to blame for WR leaving. Then as at Liverpool the turds will hit the fan but on a much bigger scale.

If you include yourself in that thinking pattern then yes you are.

I for one know Liverpool are shocking, blame is placed in many places but I don't think we are still the same as 2 years ago.

    I'm in two minds really.

Yeah he was a bit silly with all the "I want to sign a contract for life" stuff, and its sad that he wants to leave. He might be out of form, but hes a class act.

The thing is - you'd be hard pushed to find a fan who disagrees with him on the fact we currently don't have the funds or 'future' to get the big names. It's not about City or Real, its our american owners.

Rooney was quite clever to indirectly point the finger at the owners, and in doing so gaining the support of some fans. I don't think we need Rooney, but he is the last of our current crop of big names. I don't count legends like Scholes and Giggs because sad as it is, they will be gone soon.

I'm not going to **** off our players, but you can see whats happened through Rooneys eyes. We lost Ronaldo, put didn't really have a choice. We replaced him with Valencia who I personally think is a great player. But not really a direct replacement for Ronaldo. However, if you're Rooney I do sort of see what he means when you consider Smalling, Chico and Bebe. Could be great players - but not really in the same context as Rooney and Ronaldo.

Apparently the talks yesterday included Rooney's agents, so I'd say it was 95% certain to be about how to come out with a joint statement respecting both parties, and hopefully 5% on making sure theres no way to keep him at OT.

Personally I think too much has been said - Rooney's effectively said some of his teammates aren't good enough. However, SAF seems to be leaving the door open.

    Maybe... just maybe.

If you believe what WR is saying then the only thing that would tempt him to remain at Old Trafford is around £100 million injection of transfer kitty. I guess if SAF turned round and said in the transfer window we are going to sign Torres, Benzema and another couple of players then at least this would disprove WR's thoughts. Given the 'supposedly' financial situation they are in I find this highly unlikely.

Given that he seems to have upset some of the current squad a return to the first team also seems unlikely.

He will go to City IMO.

    I am.

I seem to be in the minority of people who agrees with Rooney, if it is for the reasons he's said and he's not leaving for money or his agents wispered in his ear etc then in the bigger picture I think its the right thing for him to do as far as Manchecter United is concerned, becuase it could well be a turning point.

    Cool...... post appreciated.

I can undestrand loyalty towards SAF, but blinkered loyalty is a dangerous thing.

Been great to take the lime light off Liverpool. But the Saga needs to ends this death threats are pathetic.

They should loan him out to RM, maybe do a temporary swap deal with Benzema, that way WR goes out the limelight and Utd get to see what Benzema offers before maybe buying him.

Everyone 'wins' and as Adam says all the hype should die away.

Btw, I beleive that Rooney mob were set up.

Wish David Moyes would get his head out of SAF's ass.

Yeh, I can understand he cant come out and attack the owners... but maybe in the interest of the club and fans he should. I'm not a shrek fan (far from it) I just think in this instance he's got a bum deal and united fans are oblivious to what I think is the reality of the situation.

Does anyone believe that Rooney might be the push for SAF to retire? The odds have gone up on the end of this season.

I love the way Evra, the main man in France's World Cup revolt is now berating Rooney for his attitude towards the club etc ....... pot - kettle - black come to mind ..... lol

Utd's PR group have done an excellet job in deflecting the root cause away from SAF and the owners, once the hype has died down around Rooney the majority will see he is right and the tide will turn against the owners, another couple of poor results as of late and the owners will start to get increasing levels of flack the further thay fall behind the table toppers.
