If someone is sofas Irving and staying at a friends that is paying single persons discounted council tax. I have been informed they can stay up to 30 days. If theyou were to leave and stay else where. How long a break is necessary that they can come back for another weeks stay without affecting their discounted single persons discount thank you

Yea helping the homeless, terrible.
You will have to satisfy the council that the sofa surfing is a temporary arrangement (which is permitted and has no affect on allowances). However, if the friend is moving out but then moving back in again you would be hard pressed to prove to the council that this is a temporary arrangement.
The best advice I can give is to speak to your council and ask them, rather than a bunch of strangers on a forum, as it's the council that will be deciding whether or not this is a temporary arrangement. The council will consider (among other things) how long the sofa surfing has been going on & is likely to continue, where the friend is staying when not sofa surfing at the house, whether the friend leaving personal stuff (e.g. clothing, wash kit, toothbrush) at the house in between the sofa surfing sessions, etc etc etc.
as said above, only the council will be able to answer this question as different councils may have different criteria for what they consider temporary, but i would think that someone visiting their relations over the year would be considered temporary, so what would normally fit into a visitor stay pattern would be acceptable.
Just don’t tell the council or mention anything?

No trying to get out of having to pay extra council tax, if they are there 30 days it’s not sofa surfing.. then leaving and coming back, wake up!! If they were truly homeless by getting an address they could get benefits So paying the extra 25% council tax would be worth it for a few months till they got on the feet..
it didn’t long for the fraud police to join this thread

sounds like the council has already found out as this would not even be asked by most people unless it already has become an issue.

You simply have no idea what the predicament of the person having to live like this is in. 'A few months to get back on their feet'. i
In certain parts of the country could be a 2 -£3,000 requirement and to some that's just not feasible. If it's council housing they are after, sofa surfers simply get ignored. You need to have an eviction notice to be legally entitled to council property with immediate effect and that's not going to happen for anyone living on their mate's sofa.

In the cold light of day, the people helping out their mates should be receiving a discount on their council tax, not an increase, as sofa surfing certainly saves taxpayers money although it's an ugly party of society that has become the norm

You don’t have to get just council housing, sofa surfing is a few nights here and there in different house all the time op is on about a month, then the shortest time away to come back. That’s fraud not sofa surfing...

but the do gooders never see that society is broken..

Totally agree with you and the big companies what don’t pay tax... oh wait are these companies and people not the ones what employ a lot of people and without them there would be no work...

but wait because they get away with it let everyone...

Yeah society is broken, but the sofa surfing issue that seems to irk you so much is the result of the broken society, not the cause. The family waiting for their mansion to be refurbed will more than likely not have to encounter a scenario where the family has been split up, living on their various mates sofas, whereas the marriage breakdown of 2 people living in a council house and the father moving out is a more likely scenario that would lead to sofa suffering. Do you concur?

Sofa surfing doesn’t irk me, the way op asked the question sounds dodgy and I’m not the first to comment the same, so take it up with other poster as well. People splitting up or moving out has nothing to do with someone trying to get round paying a 25% extra council tax..

people with money money split up and live separately from their children as well, but there rich so doesn’t matter? That’s how you are sounding...

That I will agree with the law can be an ass.. but this has nothing to do with law and to do with paying your way like everyone else..
