not likely. when you install it copies files into system folders and also writes to the registry. simply copy the folder isn't enough. you need the installation files

No you need the installer files, you just have the data files that have been installed on to the other pc.

    is it any good?

Not when you compare it to the latest version of office!

Have you checked to see if your college offers MSOffice (& other software) free of charge to its students? Many of them do now.

Is your spell checker broken :-D

I got the newest office free (my friend's mam works for microsoft) and I'm really glad I didn't paid for it, the options for editing are all over the place, it runs really slowly, I don't even like the look of it. I do however prefer older office to open office, but that might be just what i'm used to. I have just recently installed ubuntu on a dual boot so that will give me a chance to use open office and see what the newest version is like. There is a lot of great free software out there, I think a lot of people are brainwashed into thinking that if they've paid for something it must be better!

office can be better in some cases an open office in others... for exmaple if you have a medium-fast WINDOWS system office 07 will run perfect and it isnt that hard to find the bits you looking for! but if your on a slow system or on a linsux then use openoffice

i'm not running on a slow system it takes noticeably longer to do anything on office07 than in office03, in my opinion its a step backwards

have to agree. Just where have they hidden away all those editing / formatting options. I have to use the help system all the time and even that isnt much help.

what do they call the new menu thing? the ribbon? ill have my file, edit, edit view, back any day. (not really a fan of vista either, so i hope they be supporting xp for a long time yet)

Hey most of the Micro$haft products are bloatware, there are tonnes of alternatives to Office, people just can't be bothered looking. OpenOffice is pretty good and does 99% of what most people need. But hey everyone likes to always follow the leader :-)

I wouldn't have called two or three 'tons'. There's openoffice and derivatives (star office, synergy), there's that one that tesco rebadge and sell, and that's about it isn't it?

there are a lot more individual offerings, ie word alternatives, but i think you right in saying there aren't many suites
