What sort of things are they looking for in the statement?
Is there a limit on the number of words?
Do you speak it out loud or hand it over?

there isn't any limit on the words it just needs to be a personal statement which is to be handed over.

I am guessing then that you need to say a bit about yourself, why you want to do the course and why you should be selected rather than anyone else?

sell yourself!!! keep as close to the truth as you possibly can. underplay bad stuff.

cant help too much as the last one i did was a while back.

But try and make it stand out - have something different/personal e.g. you aims in your career / or things you have done.

include the normal stuff;
-info about you and your educational and work background
-strenghts
-always have an area that you say you wish to develop (and say how you believe that this course will allow you to improve in this area)
-what you have achieved
-what you wish to achieve

I probably have not helped you, but if you have not already seen, take a look at:
]http//ww…htm

Start with why you are interested in the course, your own experiences and abilities and where you hope it will take you.
experience, learning opportunities and future are usually the key points that need to be included.

right, my personal statement was pretty much designed by following something similar to this

paragraph 1 - talk about yourself, say why you are right for the course etc, try and get them hooked from the start, youve gt to sound charismtic here, a bad first paragraph n they might not bother with the rest

paragraph 2 -qualifications etc, they are already on ur application form, so what u need to do here is state why they are relevant to the course, maybe talk about specific parts of these qualificatoins tht interest you, always link this stuff to the course ur applying fr

paragraph 3 - talk about this course, why ur suitable for it, what interests u about it, any research about it u might have done and how it all links to any career plans u may have

paragraph 4 - hobbies and other intrests, they need to know more about what u do out of studying, if u can bring quality at a sport they may be more willing to take u than someone else, any sporting achievments too, and they like to know u have a life outside studying

paragraph 5 - anything else that u think is relevant, in my personal statement i put a lot of stuff about other things i hd done at skl in my final year, community involvement, peer mentoring, peer mediation etc

thts about it really make sure the layout is good and its consistent, u dnt want to be randomly jumping from bit to bit, make sure it flows like a good essay if u know wht i mean, seriouslythink about everything relevance, always link what u can back to the course

make sure spelling and grammer is perfect lol, think thts about it

o and dont talk about stuff u nearly did or managed, i know it sounds stupid but ud be surprsied how many ppl do it  focus on ur achievments and positives

Start with an outline - 6-8 bullet points which you want to make and are important to the overall objective.

for example:

Why you chose this course?
What particular qualities/abilities make you well suited to the course
How you made your choice
What you want to do longer term (ie career, more training etc)
What you want to do extra-curriculum wise (ie what are you doing when not working)
Good examples of your commitment to things, ability to work with others, organisational skills

From this you can then 'flesh' out some more meat with examples, ideas and general substance to the bullets. Dont make the mistake of waffling, make sure you dont keep making the same point just in different ways and absolutely make sure that you stick to the point.

This will make sure that you look as if you have thought about this rather than just throwing something together at the last minute. Make sure they know this was you chosen course rather than best available, most convenient or couldnt get on others.

And lastly, take a deep breath, get a good nights sleep and knock em dead!

good luck
