try using firefox or another web browser to what you are at the moment

Are you sure its from microsoft themselves as there is a pop up that says something like that!

I agree with the post above, sounds a bit fishy to me as currently malware often impersonates Windows Security or similar - what does it actually say?

It's fake, the malware is actually generating that message - the virus it claims you have on your system is not actually there, it's trying to make it look like there is a virus so you buy their software.

Try this free software to get rid of it:

malwarebytes.org/mba…php

I find it works extremely well on getting rid of the type of malware you seem to have.

a picture of when it happens, when it happens press Prt Sc (mines on the f12 key) then open paint up and hit on paste, then you need to save to computer, once save you need to uplaod to somewhere like photobucket

if photobucket is used, upload to there and then copy the image url on to here

I had the same thing 3 days ago and running housecall cleared it. Takes between 2 and 6 hours (depending on your computer etc) but do it now before your computer is totally fecked. It's a new nasty that can view the contents of your computer (if it's the same one I had). Trust me.

There are many ways your computer could get infected with Antivirus 2008. … There are many ways your computer could get infected with Antivirus 2008. Antivirus 2008 can come bundled with shareware or other downloadable software. Another method of distributing Antivirus 2008 involves tricking you by displaying deceptive pop-up ads that may appear as regular Windows notifications with links which look like buttons reading Yes and No. No matter which "button" that you click on, a download starts, installing Antivirus 2008 on your system. Antivirus 2008 installs on your computer through a trojan and may infect your system without your knowledge or consent.

It shouldn't take 2 to 6 hours, the tool I recommended earlier can remove this type of malware in about five minutes.

It's not a full scan - the software knows where it needs to go to get rid of this type of malware so you can do a quick scan which picks it up quickly and then remove it. The software isn't a general purpose virus scanner, it's specifically for malware pretending to be antispware, anitvirus etc. which I'm coming across more and more frequently at the moment on people's PCs. So far to my relief the MBAM software has managed to cleanly remove it all which has saved me a lot of work.

I highly recommend it if you or anyone you know has this type of infection.

Bit wrong there m8...

Malwarebytes does pickup most malware of this type, but ALWAYS do a complete scan, NOT a quick scan, as quick scan will miss some things.

An alternatve is www.superantispyware.com Similar product and free for non-realtime protection.

Then do a manual clean up

Not wrong at all, every recommendation I've seen for running this software is to use quick scan mode and each time I have used it this way it has successfully removed the malware. If it doesn't work then you can run a full scan as it's extremely obvious whether it has worked or not.

As I said above, this tool shouldn't be treated as a general purpose piece of software for removing all malware.

You are reading the wrong stuff m8, ye' it is a good scanner :), But always full scan.

Nope, most malware is not obvious for the "switch it on, use it, switch it off computer user.

So...

1. Try it with your next problem sysem in quick mode
2. Don't clean it, just save the log
3. Then do a full scan
4. Compare the logs
5. Now u c what I mean

>tried my 3 anti-virus programmes

If you really are runnng 3 AV programs then that is NOT a good idea and will slow your PC down.

Just settle on one of them and delete the other two (if they really ARE AV programs and not spyware programs etc)
