Sometimes I hate humanity!! or should I say the complete lack of it....

I don't even know how to entirely say what I mean but sometimes I honestly could just give up! When you look at the mess of the world, War, terrorism, Murder, Rape, Homelessness, Child abuse/Neglect and the many many other issues I haven't mentioned, I just think what is the point .

I recently shared an appeal on facebook for instance, it's for money to buy sleeping bags for the homeless as the local charities have run out, do you want to know how many of my friends liked, shared or donated even £1 ? NONE instead they shared crap to win themselves tickets to the carnival, massive prize bundles from stores and even a puppy who wouldn't get any likes or shares....

I have been struggling so much to try and feel the spirit of Christmas (or humanity) and slowly losing the will to live!.

I am actually thinking the same thing! I know not all the worlds problems are down to my friends i.e war etc but they can be selfish prats at times.

On the flip side my friends helped me raise over £900 for charities using social media this year. Maybe it's your friends? :-/

Your not on your own with how you feel, it's scary seeing people who have so much wanting more and the thought of sharing seems to frighten most!! I have children and i do fear at times where the world's going to. we are lucky for the world we live in, but things also have to change and people need to open their eyes to the real world not just the fake Facebook world that many follow religiously.

Brilliant, Well done

I do have some good friends that I work with for Charity so I know they are not all like that, I think it's the bad ones that sadly overshadow the good ones at times.

Rio Ferdinand beat you to it and donated £500,000 worth of toys to children in Manchester & 11,000 sleeping bags for the homeless.

I read that story and it is great what he has done but there is so much more needing done in this world and if we all sit back and wait on someone else doing it then it ain't gonna happen, alos I think what saddens me is that a Charity needs so many sleeping bags for the homeless that they have run out

Yeah! Try to be positive -there are selfish people in the world but there are also amazing caring, honest people too- think about all the great work that goes on -sadly the media only highlights all the bad stuff! Merry Christmas! X

I think they need more soup kitchens to help feed the homeless.

Whilst I do agree that more soup kitchens are needed I also think the bigger picture needs to be looked at by the government they need to tackle the issues that are causing homelessness, I knew homelessness was rife but I think reading that there is so many on the streets that Charities have run out of sleeping bags has really upset me.

Maybe you could put together a donation, or collection for a local charity. Doesn't have to be much, but it might help! You're never going to change the world, or the way people behave, all you can do is strive to be a decent human being and try to be a positive contribution to the world.
As for "feeling the spirit of Christmas (or humanity)", I've sort of touched on this already, but, this is something you will have to create for yourself.
It may not seem this way, but there are a lot of other decent humans out there, even though people appear to be inherently selfish. At this time of year, I think your perception is likely distorted too. Christmas provides the environment for those who are "inherently selfish" to really stand out, but at the same time there are an abundance of those who are inherently selfless doing good things for people they don't know - they don't flaunt it, or ask for thanks, and so you might not be aware.

Not sure if that really helps you at all, but I do understand what you're saying and feel that way too at times.

I have a slightly different spin on the homeless/sleeping bag issue.

I'd like to know why the persons are homeless in the first place, before parting with any of my money.

I would guess some of them are there, related to the topics mentioned in the original heading, and are maybe not victims..but perpetrators.

With the current government sadly we're only going to see a rise in homelessness, Who's idea was it to pay housing benefit as part of a "Universal Credit"?, I wonder what alcoholics will spend their housing benefit on?.

I don't go on Facebook for charity or begging requests - I go on there to socialise and learn about my friends' activities etc.

If I saw a charity request/"Share this to help the _______", I'd probably go on your profile and Unfollow you.

It's not people being selfish, it's just people using social media for different things and getting irritated when they see people using it for purposes other than those they pursue themselves.

I do get what you mean, apart from Rio Ferdenand most people's donations to charity do go unnoticed and certainly not printed in the papers so it is easy to miss. The same people are just as selfish all year it does just stand out more at Christmas, I have given to several appeals in the last few weeks with food banks, homeless charities, school fayres and I donated to the appeal mentioned above, I don't have much but I do give where I can and in any form I can it is just hard being around selfish people who have all they could need and constantly want more without being willing to give something back and then you see those who have nothing and are grateful for what little they do have.

That's fair enough, you would like to know who you are giving to, not that you won't give and that is a reasonable request.

There are so many charities after you to donate it's often hard choosing which ones to give to, I give to cats protection often as it is something which makes me feel better, it's all down to choice and often you are made to feel guilty.

Listen to some music you really enjoy when you're down.
Always works for me.

Precisely, nothing wrong with it Still donate to plenty of friends' appeals, just haven't got an appetite for seeing it on Facebook.

In the same way that some people don't mind TV adverts, some detest them.

Personal preference.

I asked Facebook friends to donate for some bits for the homeless last week, and I raised over £150. It can depend on how your word things, as a previous request for money for the refugee crisis, one friend who I hardly know, and don't stay in touch with, gave me £400 towards it, just because of the what I said in my request.

exactly how I feel. I see a few homeless in the towns and feel bad but in the back of my mind I do think how did they get there in the first place, loss of job, drugs, crime, high cost of rents etc etc. I have asked one or two and they have said been thrown out of their flat. I didn't want to give them money which I have done in the past but gave them food instead only to find from my niece who works in Tesco that a lot of them bring food back that was given to them to see if they can get a refund. only recently a homeless man was given a shop voucher to get shoes only to try and get a refund on the shoes, not sure if that's true but it shows it happens.

I use social media for the things I would actually talk about in face to face situations also but I would also tell others about local appeals that were going on in the hope that if they could help they would.

If you ever found yourself in need and there is always a chance that will happen...would you not like to know that there is people out there that care and do want to help?

Yes i know, crazy price now. Suppose if your a heavy drinker it's kinda like having an Armani coat on.

Where we live we have professional homeless people. A woman. Rings them into town in her car, tells them where to sit and collects them at about 4:30. When people have given them food and drink they put it in a bag and to the side. These people live in a house and they all smoke and all have mobile phones.
There is one real homeless person I know of in town and he is so greatful when anyone gives him anything. We have bought him a coffee and a sandwich and he cannot thank you enough

I don't just hand out to everyone sitting on the street due to the fact that there is so many 'professional homeless', I have seen it for my own eyes, people sitting begging that then lift their stuff and walk round the corner to their car and drive home!

I do make sure that I give to Charity that can ensure the donations go to those who are genuine, for instance the ones collecting the money for sleeping bags will buy the sleeping bags and go around to those sleeping on the streets at night and hand them out, it is a well established Charity that most likely and sadly have regulars
