Son nearly broke my PS3, fixed it now the Desktop has stopped working, advice needed

I plugged a usb device into the back of the desktop accidently pressed the hibernation button now the desktop wont power up, any ideas.

I have tried the old cable in another device and that works so its not the cable.

What usb was plugged in and is it still plugged in?

Perhaps you have disturbed the power lead (although I'm guessing you must have checked that)

press space, press / move mouse, press power button briefly.

Unplug the computer for a minute and plug it back in. It should restart normally.

Usually you restart just by tapping a key in sleep or hitting the power in hibernate.

remove the power lead from your PSU and wait 30 secs then plug it back in and try pc again

Can we have a little more information as to what the computer does when you press the power button? Does it turn on and not boot, or just completely dead?

absolutely completely dead, press the power button and nothing happens at … absolutely completely dead, press the power button and nothing happens at all

Ok, have you tried an ATX reset?

Remove the power cord, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, then power it back up again.

Also, is there a little light on the back of the power supply? Sometimes there is on computers and this will tell you if power is going to the machine. Does it make a little click/tick when you put the cord in the back of the power supply? (cord must be on at same time)

nope i havent but seeing as there is a smell coming from the power supply … nope i havent but seeing as there is a smell coming from the power supply i dont think that it will make much difference

If there is a smell coming from the power supply, this may be the issue. The hibernation thing may have just been a coincidence. !!

What make is the computer ? some computer motherboards have lights on them when power is connected, this will tell you if there is power getting to the motherboard.

Power supplies do go, and are not too hard to change if you dont mind having a go yourself.
