    Sony continuous play - Previously broken consoles - Help = Rep for you

    I've got a broken PSP console. So is it OK if I take out insurance (Sony continuous play) and then get my replacement then cancel it? Does the policy cover previously broken consoles? What I mean is that is it OK to take the insurance out if the console is already broken? Is this against the rules? Is it insurance fraud? Thanks in advance

    You can insure a broken item if you really wanted too but it's insurance fraud to then claim for the repairs

    Its not claiming for the repairs - I'm simply asking for a replacement. Apparently Sony created this policy for people who have broken their consoles. According to this thread

    Its 100% OK since in the T&C it doesn't state that if your console is already broken you cannot take insurance out on it. I understand this means it is OK since when ringing Sony they say it is fine

    1 it is legit.
    2 it IS insurance fraud, you're taking an insurance policy out to cover a working console against faults and damage even though knowingly the console is already broken.

    Definition of Insurance Fraid: Insurance fraud is any act committed with the intent to fraudulently obtain payment from an insurer.

    I hope not, there would be a lot of uninsured religious car owners out there then.

    The t&c's on the website don't state that it has to be in working condition when the policy is started. A bit naughty maybe, but hardly fraud as you're at no point making a declaration that the insured item is 'serviceable'.

    I don't think the underwriters would be too happ if they knew Sony were encouraging this practice.
    Interested to hear the outcome of the phone call though.

    Theres certain rulings about it - You can also get "salaam" insurance which complies with Shari'ah rulings - its still insurance but it works in a different way. Other people say its the law of the country so you HAVE to, and you've got no choice...Similarly with continuous play theirs an element which means people may get it.

    When I have called them before(Saturday), I have had an answering message that tells me their normal work day opening times(Mon-Fri), hence the question.

    +1, its just their cash alternative to ringing the phone line and claiming you bought it less than 12 months ago. it enables you to be honest, incidently my brother has just had an old 60gb replaced without the continuous play service and they havnt been available for longer than a year

    there is no cash returned just a replacement service courtesy of sony

    Totally confused as legitimately we had problems within warranty with the … Totally confused as legitimately we had problems within warranty with the youngest,s 60gb ps3 when it was 15 months old and broke again rang ps3 support and they advised us to take out 'continuous play' which we did, as advised we then reported the fault, it was replaced within 2 days, and again about 2 months ago and also covers controllers one of which they replaced with a brand new sealed dual shock and didn't want the old one.


    Yeah D&G often will take it on in hope you will continue the protection plan. and remembering the commission the guy is on at the end of the phone! ;-) So in their interest to sign you up

I'm just selling my PSP faulty...let me know if anyone has any interest.

    Have added rep to whoever I can, have to wait now before spreading anymore.

    Do not ask for a price guide here, otherwise you will have to wait a week before listing it.

    Sorry I know I'm a little late to the party, but have a look here avforums.com/for…tml There are a few threads about this on avforums and the general consensus seems to be that you can sign up after the fault, but be discrete. If you call sony technical support then phone continuous play they have a record of the fault, but if it breaks and then you subscribe and then later call to detail the fault people seem to be getting away with it
