Sony Ericsson XPERIA to be released on 30th September

My most eagerly awaited phone of this year - the Sony XPERIA X1 - will have an official release date of 30th September 2008, confirms the Sony Ericsson Press office.

This is only in certain countries, the UK being one of them. The US will be waiting until a later date to get their hands on the phone.

Still no idea of price on this, though. I guess we'll have to wait until the 30th to find that out, and hope that it drops in price rapidly after that.

Given SE's current form this is not a phone I'd be rushing out and buying, will be waiting to see how the first adopters are hammered first.

Yeah  The software on it looks awesome

Hmm I always avoided HTC like the plague because they use Windows Mobile, which sucks ass. But I may very well be temped if they're going the android route. Though what I really want is an iPhone, but there's no way I'm sullying myself with O2 again.

As for SE, that's a nice looking phone but on recent form I'm not holding out too much hope of it living up to the hype.

The XPERIA, whilst designed and controlled by Sony Ericsson, is being manufactured by HTC - so it should be pretty darn good.

So, going through what we can see in the above picture. There's the "panel" interface (very much like the iPhone) on a large touch-screen display. This panel also features a touch-operated scroller and optical joystick too.

The phone slides open in a nice arc-shape, to reveal a QWERTY keypad - something that the iPhone doesn't have. This gives you the oppertunity to use it as a touch screen phone, like the iPhone, or more like the PDA phones we've seen in the past.

    It is, of course, Wi-Fi.

The camera is 3.15 megapixels. Whilst this doesn't sound like a huge amount compared to other phones/cameras, it has Sony Ericsson's "AutoFocus" which gives absolutely amazing clarity.

It has a built-in GPS receiver, similar to other phones which double as Sat Nav...

The phone's screen is also of a good resolution, and SE claim that videos you can store on the phone are "DVD Quality".

The phone has less onboard memory than the iPhone (400MB) but it has a card slot, allowing you to upgrade much higher than the iPhone, and it has a powerful 256MB RAM, too.

Of course, being Windows Mobile there are already hundreds, if not thousands, of applications for it already.

    Ouch.

Count me out on that! I doubt too many will stump those amounts AND a contract!

i certainly wont be paying that much, but my contract doesn't end till may so i suppose it'll be cheaper then, or something much better will be out. guess i'll have to stick with my p1i

Looks stunning, its time for a new phone I think!

Play is listing this with a release date on Monday, 13th October, but we all know what play are like with pre-order dates on things like this, I heard vodafone were launching the handset today, but so far it hasnt appeared on their website, and vodafone customer services told me this morning that it will be 'mid October'.

Will this work via regular sim card?

Any chance of pay as you go O2 version? gotta ditch my SE w910i - stupid thing!

I know it's gonna be tremendously dear though....

The play one will work with any sim card, its very unlikely o2, or any other provider will launch a payasyougo version of this mobile, at least this year.

I'll have to look for an unwanted upgrade then:thumbsup:

I got one of those carpy w910i's that has dodgy firmware - no mini-opera, games etc and the standard (working) SE browser won't sign in on many websites (inc this one ) so my free internet usage in my O2 contract is getting wasted:x
