    Sony PS3 help please

Can you play PS2 games at all on the PS3?
    If so, what ones?
I am thinking about getting one but Mrs Skusey wants to carry on singing on the Singstar games.
    Many Thanks

Sorry, if they only PS2 games you want to play are Singstar, they will work on any PS3.

As they are now software driven, as the PS3 60Gb has extra hardware to deal with PS2 games.

Actually, I read just the other day on this site, that a portion of all PS2 games work on the various different PS3 models. The PS3 60GB original model works with a far higher percentage of the games though.

Best to google the specific title and see if you can find any info on PS3 compatibility.

You are so wrong, in the uk only the original 60gb ps3 can play ps2 games. All ps3 can play ps1 games and singstar (through some software process I am not familiar with)

Ah ok, I must of mistook PS 1 games as PS2 games when I read it.

I still love my ps1 games.........they are still good!

To play PS2 Singstar games you need a PS3 copy and it's on the menu there.

That's correct, you just need one PS3 singstar game then you can use all your old PS2 singstar discs. Also you now have voice control which is cool.....

Can you play all PS2 games on the PS3 then ?

I can source the slim versions for £180 so may buy one

did you not read the thread at all?

Only the 60gb can, the slim ps3 can not play ps2 games.

    Just checking.

You'd expect the latest versions to be backward compatible - that is crap !

Actually they said very early on that to meet the customers desire for cheaper prices they would have to cut the more expensive components (the hardware that emulated ps2) in the different versions and if you wanted Backwards compatibility with the ps2 to buy a 60gb.

The UK only ever had one PS3 SKU with PS2 B/C and that was the 60 GB model. Every other model released since has none, never will have (in all likelihood).

The US model differs, it had proper PS2 h/w support (now also discontinued), we got the gimped cousin.
