Sony PSP Games Console Questions.

Sony PSP Games Console. Model PSP-1003cw - What does this mean?

Is a good model?

What is this model worth?

Also Sony umd demo disc is missing - so what happens if it is missing?

Will be repped for good help cheers.

The cw bit means "custom firmware" I'm assuming, which basically allows you to run homebrew games and retail games from a memory stick, which can usually be downloaded online. The demo UMD only contains sample videos and games so its not essential.

If you dont want the custom firmware then go for one of the newer 2000 or 3000 models, as the screens are a lot better and brighter. I usually had trouble playing anything on my old PSP 1000 if there was any daylight near it.

I'm sure these have been going for £50-£60 in the FS/FT section, which is probably just about right.

You can also find some PSP 2000 models with custom firmware which I would reccommend if you can find one.

HUH?????????

1003 CW means CERAMIC WHITE - THE COLOUR OF THE PSP

PSP1003 is the first model of the Playstation portable that was released, later releases of the PSP are the 2000 series (dubbed "Slim and Lite"), the 3000 series (dubbed "Slim and Brite") and the PSPGo!.

The difference between the series (both cosmetically and technically) can be found if you do a quick google but one obvious difference from the 1000 to the later models is that the later models are significantly lighter and slimmer (consequently ergonomic). Also the speaker positioning and screen quality.

From a technical standpoint I believe the 2000 and 3000 has additional memory (from 32MB on the 1000 to 64MB on the later models) - don't know how this applies to games seeing as the 1000 is not restricted on playing any game (perhaps limitations on the peripherals that were released?) but from a homebrew standpoint you can (depending on what homebrew used) utilise the additional memory to multi-task applications on the PSP.

In regards to whether it's a good model (if you intend on hacking it) I would advise to look for an old 2000 series, the 1000 series is good on a hacking aspect (able to downgrade easily) however with the additional memory, slimmer design and the 1000 series fiasco with dead pixels you're better off with a 2000. The reason I suggest to look for an "old" 2000 series is for the ability to have custom firmware permanently installed rather than using the ChickenHEN method.

Lastly the PSP Demo disc means nothing - in fact some demos can be downloaded from the internet and put on your memory stick such as Patapon 2 and Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker.

Happy gaming,
Scar
