    sony remote replacement help

Long shot but hopefully someone out there knows. I have a sony HT-AS5 surround. the system works fine but the remote is playing up. the buttons work some of the time, but it takes several attempts to get them to work. I've looked the usual places for a replacement but it has been discontinued and no one stocks it. the remote code is RM-AAU074. does anyone know if I can get a different remote from a similar model or any tips on how to get the buttons working properly again. I've googled but no joy. thanks in advance

I know it's obvious but have you changed the batteries?

yep done that. it's the buttons that get used the most volume power that take 5-6 attempts to get a response

Can u take it apart? If it's metal contacts I've put pieces of foil under then so it makes better contact on my remotes that go like that

Oh well I have nothing to add I was once silly enough to think my Samsung tv remote was faulty or the tv sensor and within warranty so called them upv and they sent me out a new remote to see if that helped. which It did, then hubby gave me a dirty look and replaced batteries in the old one and voilà it worked fine oO never occurred to me to change the batteries lol. In my defence I was really young and it was our first ever tv.

thanks for your replies ladies and gents. didn't really want to spend £70 on a logitech. gonna be eBay search every other week one may turn up.

Not sure if univesal remorte will work, its around £10 or less.

You need to strip and clean the button contacts with isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds. Over time your greasy hands gum up the buttons and this layer of grease makes a poor contact.

Does it need re-programmung back with surround sound? We had a Sony TV in a holiday let in June that didn't work. Google it and pressed a few buttons in sync and got it going again.

Any luck? I broke (literally) mine ages ago, I've been using my phone to control it (via Peel & HDMI control). Finally decided to call Sony Support today. Apparently, they couldn't help me since I didn't have my proof of purchase (I think I bought in 2012, surprised I didn't register it, since I always register everything) & it appears I can't actually physically buy it anywhere else.
