Sony Viao Laptop - Last one in Argos?

Help required. Looking for a laptop - hoping to buy before the weekend. Was looking in £400 bracket as an addition to ageing desktop then saw this (in Argos) and thought perhaps this could both replace the desktop and provide some occasional portability.

    Sony Viao -

Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 dual core processor.

    2.26 GHz processor speed.

    3MB cache.

    4GB RAM.

    400GB hard drive.

    Blu-ray and DVD-RW/+RW DVD drive.

    18.4in widescreen.

    Resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels.

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT GPU graphics card with 512MB graphics memory.

    Wireless/Wi-Fi enabled - b/g/n.

    3 USB ports.

    1 FireWire port.

3 in 1 media card reader - media card compatibility; Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick (MS), Memory Stick Pro Duo (MS Pro-Duo).

    Integrated 1.3MP webcam.

Dolby Sound System 2.1 (2 built-in speakers and sub woofer).

    Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium.

Preloaded with a 60 day trial of Microsoft Office Home and Student.

Pre-loaded with a trial version of anti-virus security software.

    Adobe Acrobat Reader.

    Size (H)3.69, (W)43.72, (D)28.89cm.

    Weight 3.8 kg.

So, 2 questions - is it easy to replace Vista with Win7?
Ans is this a decent proce for a slightly older laptop?

    Thanks in advance

i can answer the first one, yes it is easy to replace vista with win7, the only thing with viaos (and any laptop from the shop), you get it pre loaded with a ton of crap. Thats why i love a fresh install! Just get rid of all these crappy free trials and promo software, and sony give you even more!

is this 400?seems like a great lappy for that sorta money

    AW series Vaio for £400...hmm

...unless u meant your budget was £400 but you then saw this laptop and it was slightly more...but you haven't stated a price?

Hello again - thanks for the advice on Vista.

Apologies for being dim and tired. I realised I forgot to name the price. It is £900 (not £400).

I thought it was still a good deal though - I have until 6pm today to decide.

    £900? Pfft.

It's a good spec, but for £900 you can have a lot more.

If it was £400 as we first believed, I would be rushing out to buy 2 now

£900 seems about right for this laptop; And yes to the first question also.
Aw series are bought primarily for their HD editing abilites etc.
In terms of portability, it's not best due to the obvious 18" size and also battery life of around 2.5hours.
    Excellent desktop replacement however.

Thanks again for advice. It seems to be a fair rather than spectacular price (have had a chance to do a bit more work myself now aswell as your comments). Just down now to choosing a desktop replacement or genuine mobile (cheap) laptop. I think I am edging towards the Samsung
