Hi, i have two small children and next have 3 teenage boys! i rent my property so need to do this as cheap as possible. The kids room joins obviously to 1 of the boys rooms and i need to block the sound. I can hear normal talking, the tv but worst is the Xbox when he has his headset on. If i ask they do curb the noise but it is also unfair that he has to be so quiet! How can i sound proof the joining wall cheaply and quickly so we are all happy?? Not egg boxes though!!! i dont like the effect ha ha!!

Can't you move the children to a different room.

Our next door neighbour moved out and left her young early 20s daughter there with her boyfriend. We get to hear the obvious almost daily all over the house and she is a shrieker.

egg boxes-paint em a nice colour-they do work btw

Go for the old favourite... cardboard eggboxes http://www.welshbikers.co.uk/forum/Smileys/default/smiley_two_thumbs_up.gif

[email protected]! -tape the shrieks and post them through her door(or even better, her mothers door)

yes, excellent idea use a million egg boxes to cover a wall oO

What about move in your room and you go in there. I would like to think your room is bigger.

Me and the missus think she fakes, thought about telling mummy when she was over the other weekend and whinged about our weeds. I wonder if he's just really good and I am not :o(

its not "egg boxes" as such you use for soundproofing, rather the big cardboard trays that hold 30/50 which are maybe ten inches square?(ish) people tile walls all the time and the tiles are smaller than the eggboxes so it isnt that hard a task.

Proper soundproofing costs thousands, just eat more eggs in your house for a few months.

With sheets you need to really glue them to the wall, may not be ideal if you are renting the place.

true, double sided carpet tape would probably work though and that's not as hard to remove as glue

When my brother was a student he had problems with the adult noise from next door!

He lived in a house converted into flats with some walls being just hollow plasterboard divisions. The Landlord would do nothing about insulating the walls and would not allow any building alterations (adding extra false walls), but allowed the following solution.

He was relatively successful in fixing a carpet off-cut with a double rubber underlay onto the entire problem wall, this reduced the sound drastically and also looked relatively pleasant. Later he finished the whole room in an exotic Beduin style with a celling-hang and drapes on the other walls and furniture.

This may not be the solution for you, but may give you a few ideas!
