    Soundcard advice needed.

    Just bought the following soundcard.

    play.com/PC/…tml

Now I also have a DVI to HDMI lead that I am using to view the computer on the big screen LCD. This cable doesnt carry the sound.

Whats the best way to transfer the sound to the TV? To the right of the HDMI slot is two phono sockets (just at the composite section) This is marked as Ext4, would this also carry the sound to the HDMI channel?

What TV is it? It sounds like it should be but I'd double check as it's not always the case with hdmi as it's assumed the audio will be carried over hdmi when it isn't always.

Looking at the picture of the ports I'd say no, the phono ports labelled ext4 look to be only for the component video as there's a marking separating those ports from the hdmi's. You'd need to check the manual to see if the hdmi ports can use any of the other audio inputs.

Just noticed its got the same ports on the left side marked Ext 3.

Those look to be for composite/s-video connections, not hdmi though - as I've said, you'll need to check the manual to see if the audio in that's designated for other video types can be used for the hdmi ports.

what is the round socket? There is supposed to be an audio input for DVI somewhere, will that allow me to somehow run the sound through DVI to HDMI?

I can't tell from the picture, does it have four or nine small pinholes or is it one single 3.5mm connector? Looking at the picture of the soundcard, it doesn't look like it has a compatible spdif connector unless there's an internal audio header on the top of the graphics card similar to the ones on the soundcard?

Yep, I see it now - that's an s-video or a multi-out, from reading the specs it's a native spdif so I'm assuming there's no dongle in the box for it? It looks like there is a connector to the left of the SLI connector on the second picture, at a guess that may be an internal audio header?

The audio input on older Geforces is internal, the round backplate socket is S-video output.

As for your TV, have a look through the menu and see if there is an option to select which sound input you want. You may be able to link them to the HDMI video.

Two RCA/Phono sockets will only give you stereo sound though, you might be able to get surround over one of the SCART connections or you could buy a device to combine the DVI signal with the S/PDIF signal and output a combined video and audio HDMI signal.
