Soundcard problem with Dell Vostro 200

Found 14th Jan 2011
Can anyone offer me some help here please.

Had this PC for about 18 months and about 6 months ago the sound stopped working.

I keep getting a pop up which is
realtek audio jack unplugged

Its probably something really simple but i cant seem to find an answer that helps.

Any suggestions?

Ye, i only see the pop up if i plug headphones/speakers in.

It then says;
Jack is plugged in
followed by
Jack is unplugged and keeps repeating those two.

Google search brings up loads of people with same problem but no answers

Have you tried reinstalling the latest drivers?

I did try about 3 months ago, will try again now and report back.

Also are you using a dedicated graphics card with HDMI?

No joy, although now if i turn the volume right up i can can here a faint hissing sound. Dont think that was there before.

Edit

Just tried itunes and sound works now

I'm sure i installed the latest drivers 3 months ago.

Thanks Gavin

Glad it's sorted, the mystery of computers!

Often when people have missing sound it's when they add a graphics card and it installs its own sound driver which stops the native one working although windows says it's installed ok and is working. But this is not the case with yours so who knows.
