Feel for all those that Travel with Southern Rail, esp coming up to Christmas!

No service Tues 13, Wed 14 & Fri 16 Dec. Passengers are advised not to travel on these dates

Driverless trains can't come soon enough.

just makes the game of "try to get to work" all that more painful.

They'd still need someone somewhere to control them and if they went on strike, the whole rail system would likely come to a standstill.

In any case, can you realistically see any government being prepared to finance the massive technological improvements needed to the rail infrastructure to run driverless trains?

I thought they had been on strike the last 6 months anyway

When I was a child, I wanted to drive a train when I grew up. It seems that being a child is actually a requirement to be a train driver.

DLR is also on strike, drivers have complained that they are entirely unnecessary and furthermore invisible.
(Service runs at over 99% efficiency and timeliness.)
