Yes ,a real tragedy and so sorrowful for the families .
I have never read anything about the driver ,as if there has a been a total blackout on anything about him . Had he a heart attack , stroke or had he been found with a half drunk bottle of scotch whiskey in the cab .I would really like to know how something so tragic could happen .

Glasgow city council has imposed a ban naming the driver or his co workers, the driver remains ill in hospital.in due course a fatal accident inquiry will be held to determine if anything could have prevented this tragedy.thoughts to bereaved and injured.

the investigation is still on going and I'm sure you could find something else to gossip about in the mean time

Fate can be a horrible thing. The mother was at a nearby cashpoint and may have seen her parents and daughter struck by the lorry.

I believe it's their funerals today. Absolutely devastating for this family and I hope they can find some peace amongst the question that must continue to echo around them - Why?

The daughter was 18, so very sad.

@whatsThePoint , you seem to do your fair share of gossiping too, judging by your activity .

The point I'm making is , we have a right to know now what caused the tragic accident . There will be drivers in lorry's who maybe should not be driving and bin wagons that may have developed faults on the road at this very moment .

Any vehicle can develop a fault, & any driver can lose control of a vehicle (through illness, carelessness, or stupidity), at any moment.

Why do u have a "right to know" ? The families of those killed or injured have a right? We're you affected personally? If not I'd imagine it will be revealed at the inquiry.

In 2012 in London alone, 69 pedrestrians were killed. Imagine how many pedestrians are killed and injured every day, as well as cyclists.

The tragedy in Glasgow is highlighted in the news, and people 'want answers', but sadly pedestrians are killed and hurt every day.

no need to travel to London, in Scotland in the space of just 6 weeks there were 4 accidents involving bin wagons in which people died

I heard on the news at the time that it was not being treated as suspicious.

There is a case not resolved yet in Glasgow of 2 young girls killed after being knocked down,it transpired the driver of the vehicle had a history of blackouts, the full details came out in the fatal accident inquiry, although this incident was 2010.

yes,he had been attending hospital for treatment,he failed to disclose to dvla, still unclear wether he will be prosecuted, the fai concluded that if he had disclosed his condition his licence would have been revoked and he would,nt have been driving.

I have to drive for work and show my license every 6 months. Any fool could get around the system, when license revoked inform DVLA you lost it, and give old license to company. The system is a joke and open to abuse.
Employers should either be informed by DVLA or able to check with DVLA direct.

If there is a requirement for an employee to drive as part of the remit of their role within an organisation with, or without, the provision of a company-owned vehicle, somebody involved with the appointment of a candidate should be checking that licences are valid.

I would have thought that it would be common practice to check at least annually as well.

A nominal charge (possible £5.00; I would have to check) used to be applied per individual.

Self-drive & vehicle leasing organisations verify licence details in the same manner.

Correct,i drive my own car and a council pool car,my docs are checked twice a year,i don't know if council further check these.i believe a fitness to drive check would be a good idea.
