Sports Direct Returns
A quick guide to the Sports Direct returns policy.

Can I return items for a refund?
For in-store purchases, you can return them to any branch of Sports Direct with your original receipt. They will only exchange your item(s) or offer a credit note, they don’t issue cash returns.

For online purchases, you can return the items by post within 14 days. If the whole order is being returned then a refund will be issued but they state that if only part of your order is returned they will only offer an exchange for those items (for a different size). If the item you want to exchange is out of stock they will offer you a refund.

You cannot return your online purchases in store.

How do I return my items?
For online orders, you will need to print and fill in a returns form here. Then return your parcel with the form to this address:

Customer Returns,
Unit B,
Brook Park East,
Shirebrook.
NG20 8RY.

How much will Sport Direct returns cost me?
You are responsible for the cost of postage for any returns to Sports Direct so the cost will depend on the size of the parcel you are returning. They recommend that you use registered post for your returns in case the parcel gets lost.

Other returns information
  • If you claim the product is defective, they will check this and if found to be true they will authorise a refund.
  • Personalised items are non-refundable.
  • Some products are not refunadble for hygiene reasons.
  • If you used a gift card to pay for your goods then refunds will be issued on a gift card.

when I bought some running trousers, same size and brand as I normally wear, store doesnt have a changing room. They were way too small took them back, all labels in tact with receipt and I couldnt have my money back only voucher, apparently thats their policy. I won't buy from there anymore. I know I don't make any difference, but I feel better not giving them my money.
Recently my friend was refused an online return by a shop. Seems like they've changed their t&cs at some point and now you have to ship the returns at your own costs except if the product is faulty or not as described

thanks hellyl for sharing your experience.
I had been stung in the past same way.....and struggled for a year to buy using the voucher to buy suitable goods that they sell. Thought the law was changed recently and retailers are required by law to allow returns for full refund of monies......so wanted to know if SD had changed their policies.....
by the way may i know when did you return your items.....is it in the recent past or long time ago?
thanks.
Do NOT!!!! Do that!!

Sports Direct have the WORST online customer service

You can NOT get a cash refund at store. Only gift card vouchers.

Its very difficult to return online and this will be at your expense

Whats WORSE is this scum company charges for "Click and Collect" - You cannot even order it to the shop for free - There is a £3.99 charge for that

If you do decide to buy online - The stupidly automatically add in your basket the Mug which costs another £1 - so you must manually remove this from your basket.

NEVER AGAIN.

Theres a reason why they are cheap! WORST company ever.

may 2016, so unsure if they have changed their policies since then, I know the shop assistant didnt agree with the policies, but obviously has had the brunt of some very disgruntled customers regarding it.
I actually returned it the day after I bought them to the exact same store.

Nope. Bricks and mortar retailers are under no legal obligation to offer a returns policy unless the item is damaged, etc.

I've had similar experience buying a suitcase from there. Bought it for my mum who didn't like it and they refused to give my money back. Very poor customer service. I did eventually after calling for a manager. But you should not need to stand in any store and shout for your consumer rights.

Consumer rights does not include refunds if you change your mind after the sale except if you bought online.
No retailer is obliged to give you any sort of refund whether it is cash or voucher, but we are lucky here in the UK that retailers offer a very generous returns policy.
We may not like it because we are not used to it but Sports Direct is perfectly within its rights by not accepting to refund the original payment method if you didn't like the product after purchase.

I was in my local branch last week, don't like the store but there isn't much choice where I live. They have notices around the store that goods must be returned in as new condition within 28 days of purchase. Only an exchange or gift voucher will be issued. Apparently it's not a legal requirement to give you your cash back it's down to each company. I try to shop in here as little as possible but needs must when the kids need a new swimming costume in winter!

Unfortunately Sports Direct has got somewhat of a monopoly on the high street for inexpensive sportswear and footwear amongst other things and a lot of us for whom "money is object" would have to step in there on occasions despite our dislike of its retail practices....
I odered kids school shoes online, did not fit, so took it to store, they said you have to send it back, you cant bring it in store , AND RETURN IS NOT FREE, YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR RETURN POSTAGE, really bad service, if i had known that you cant return i wouldnt have ordered. Lesson learnt, never buy again from sportsdirect online.

Hmmm.....in the US majority of the stores offer free 28 day return policy for full refund. Same in Germany too...so I dont particularly see that here in the UK we've been lucky.....
Stores do not accept returns, you have to pay out of your pocket.
With shoes from this company 2 out of 5 pairs look used like they did instore but still I had to pay pp.
I d buy shoes from online now, clothes are well worth it tho.
Will not ever shop with them again due to their returns policies
This Company knocks me sick why can you not hand a return item fully parcelled back to one of There many stores I have ordered three cheap joggers which are to small all I want is an exchange for medium but if I have to pay post they won’t be cheap plus every time you order jogging trousers from sports Direct the sizes are all over the place some times medium are to big the next time you order medium fit

I had recently paid for an order using PayPal. Had to send the whole thing back as nothing fits.... PayPal paid for the returns and issued me a full refund....
Next time when I order something from these cowboys it will be through PayPal as you get free returns and buyers protection.
Never return it to store as they issue store credit than refund.... Pathetic practices... Not sure who they get away by bypassing DSR.

You have to activate free returns by following the link above.
Then, you pay for the return, retain receipt then upload it to PayPal who will refund you full.
PayPal terms says that you can turn within 6 months well over 28 days returns window you get from sports direct.
Hope this helps.
Happy to help if you have further questions.
Thanks a lot , really appreciate

Isn't that the point a monopoly on inexpensive sportswear and footwear is likely products sold at a lower margin. Many stores offer generous return policies but that good customer service is reflected in their higher prices. You could argue the case that for those who basically just buy clothes and keep them with a very, very low rate of returning them why should they subsidise those who return a huge amount of products they purchase? It seems to be me everywhere in the world there are shops that sell cheap with basic customer service and those that prioritise good customer service over lower prices. It's when people expect very low prices and great customer service that people's expectations get unrealistic.

Personally though I don't always find sports direct pricing low. If I go in there I see many products that are great quality at a low price but also stuff that actually isn't that great in quality for a high price, it certainly isn't cheap for everything you have to keep your common sense about you. In fact if its a product where they have paid a lot to license a brand or paid a large sum to own the brand those are often some of the worst value products. The more rubbish the brand the better the quality vs price in my experience in sports direct.

Pricing and flouting DSR are two different things. To operate as a business they got to stick to the laws....
dont know if its changed but i collected a usc order from sports direct last week the lady said i was okay to return to store as long as it was in the same condition i bought it in, although it can take 14 days to credit back to my account.

You're lucky and the only one to receive monies upon returning to store.
I did several returns and it's always been store credit.

Paypal would cover you if the item isn't as described. Not if you decide that you don't like the item. It's not like you can return an item up to 180 days after for a change of mind. It has to be faulty at the point of delivery and when you open it. You can find that out in 6 months.
Of course you can always lie about it and say it's faulty when you have just changed your mind but that's another matter.

You can return if the item is faulty and you've just opened it! Not if you just change your mind... It's also not a warranty so if you use it for 5 months and then it breaks it's not gonna be covered. Hope that's clear. Otherwise paypal would go broke quickly. They're not stupid.

No - you can return if you change your mind with Paypal paying the return.. They say "if it's just not doing the trick"

They're not stupid but they are offering this service - it encourages buyers to use Paypal rather than a credit card for online purchases.
Terrible Shop
Had horrible experience with returning to Sports Direct. They sent me a Guns N' Roses t-shirt that was grey and not black as the picture showed on their site. It took them months to deal with this issue not even a free returns label as their own fault not as described. I did what previous posts mentioned about using the "PayPal Returns". Shocking service the cheek to even have to pay postage costs for Click & Collect to store as well.

I also purchased suede Nike trainers at the store and when I got them home seen some fault with them, apparently my fault for not noticing before I left the store. Took them back to store and wanted a full refund they would not honour this apart from an exchange or credit note. By law they really should be allowing this but they seem to be the only company that gets away with this practise.
sports direct are distributing a lot of their stock into house of fraser and debenhams stores - so if there's one of those in your area you could pop in in person.

And this is why I never ever shop there:

Can I return items for a refund?
For in-store purchases, you can return them to any branch of Sports Direct with your original receipt. They will only exchange your item(s) or offer a credit note, they don’t issue cash returns.
They sure like resurrecting old topics on here lately.

I returned something last year and they would not give me my money back, i stayed and argued that I paid cash I want cash back after 30 minutes of discussion/arguments they finally said it is at the manager discretion if they refund cash or not.
never heard of Shirebrook, are sure its not just sum maginary place in the owner's mind?
I bought some golf shoes which didn’t last more than a few weeks I sent them back exactly as directed using the return slip downloaded off their website and tracked. These where delivered and signed for but although I sent them all the information they said they had not received them.
i wouldn’t touch them with a bargepole
Wouldn't buy from them EVER again. Unless you link in the UK and can physically return something. I'm going through hell to get my items that don't fit back!
