    Spotify Open Changes

So Spotify have announced that they will be limiting their 'Spotify Open' services (1st post):

Basically as of May 1st, 'Open' users who signed up before November 2010 will be limited to:

    - Play each track for free up to 5 times.
    - Total listening time will be limited to 10 hours per month.

For those you signed up after Nov 2010, these changes will take place after 6 months.

Does anyone know of any alternatives to Spotify?

That’s equivalent to around 200 tracks or 20 albums.

Last time i was on grooveshark was a mess. There was songs missing from albums. Some artists had the same song with different names. Multiple versions of the same album appeared. One artist i listened to had a track that finished midway through the song. Some artists had songs with different bands listed as there own.

    Just download everything.

The record companies should look at things like Spotify as a great way of advertising their product. Instead, they just think people are just getting something for nothing so they make Spotify place stupid restrictions like this on their service in an effort to make people sign up for the premium service so they can get a cut.

Is it not only £5 a month?!

It's still that way. I'm pretty sure I read that content is user-uploaded. Which explains why the tagging is crap and songs are missing.

£4.99 a month for Spotify Unlimited is pretty reasonable. I think £9.99 for the Premium service is a bit much though - you're paying double just for the privilege of streaming to your mobile.

It depends on how much music you listen to as to whether you think it is reasonable or not. Would I rather pay £9.99 a month and listen to whatever music I want or buy the equivalent albums for way over that? £9.99 a month for all the music I want is very good value.

100% agree with you... Greedy music companies.

I wouldn't mind paying £5 a month but it's the principle. Surely spotify has more members than ever before putting less restrictions on the user rather than more?
