Spotify, what do you get with the free version?

Ive just re downloaded it on my ipad. It still had my old playlists on. Im currently listening to Ed Sheeran!
Ive not filled anything in, or paid for anything. Am I on a free trial or is this the free version? What do you get with the free version? are you still able to play music?

    Thank you x

There's a free version which is free for life and a 30-day free trial of the Premium service.

With the free service you have to listen to adverts and you are limited to lower sound quality (160kbps, which is a bit low for serious listeners but absolutely fine for casual listening).

The premium service gives you an ad-free experience and access 320kbps streams where available, along with offline playback.

    Not bad for free!

How do you get premium for free?
Also, where do the ads come into it? do they come on during the songs? and, some songs have a + next to them and I can add them to a playlist, whilst others dont. Am I doing something wrong?

Yeah, it's a bit annoying but compare that to buying every single you want to listen to! YouTube has had ads for a long time now so there's not really a way to listen without ads for free without paying something (unless you go the piracy route, which I sometimes to to give an album a trial-listen before I buy it*)

I'm not sure about the '+' signs as I've not used Spotify for a long time, but after a quick Google I've found a thread over at the Spotify forums where people have tried to explain it [link]

Thanks for this. It looks like you can get the premium on 3 devices. There are 3 of us in our family so it might be worth it for the 3 of us to beneift. I noticed there is someone on HUKD who sells the premium version on ebay.

The way we get around the ads on the tablet is selecting the next song before the end of the previous song and then we don't have too listen too anything but music.letting a playlist run will mean you'll have ads every few songs.i havnt heard a ad on spotify for months the way we do it

When your out, does listening to the music use up your data allowance?

I was an early adopter of Spotify and used to enjoy it. But after a year or two it changed and started to mess with tags in my music library... Which was really annoying as I spent ages getting them perfect. So I stopped using Spotify. Can someone tell me does it still scan your library and change tags?

I tried spotify free a while ago, believe it only allowed you to stick a setset amount of songs while on free.

I'm on a paid subscription via my phone contract (vodafone 4g free spotify). I tend to use it often but only to have something to listen too, not personalised it enough to have it perfect.
Through on a blue tooth speaker while I skate at my local skate park and everyone seems happy, well after they put on some of the worst sounding rap music imaginable. ><

blinkbox music quality is better than Spotify free. Deezer subscription is miles better than Spotify. Jango is free too.

If you're streaming music to your phone it will eat your data. If you've saved a download list for offline (unsure if on free) it'll read from your memory on the phone and not charge.

Don't know to be honest,I only had the premium from 30 day trial on my laptop and 30 days on my mobile but that was back in the day when you could only play a track a max of 3 times and then it got locked out in free mode.Too me premium isnt much different than free mode, apart from no adverts, but we can get round that anyway. so what would anyone be paying the ten squid a month for,I don't know
