Hi all,

The girlfriend cleaned the cooker hood a few weeks ago, we've been holiday and come back and seen what looks like rust on the hood.

Quite unusual as the cleaner she used is what she has used before.

Can anyone suggest what can be done to sort it?

WIll rep the helpers, cheers.

Either get as new cooker or get a new girlfriend who knows how to clean properly.

stainless steel does not go rusty i have stainless steel solor light our side for about 3 years and never gone rusty so id take it back to where it came from.id check what cleanign stuff u used aswell .

Did she use a scourer to clean it with? Stainless should never go rusty even if she did tho.. Strange

have you tried to clean it again?? If it comes off...then no bother

Yeah we checked the stuff she used and it was fine. Just used a microfibre cloth I think, or a j cloth thing. And yeah we tried again, no joy!

What did she use to clean it with though? If it was an abrasive scouring pad, it could cause this to happen.

We don't have any pads in the house, only cloths. She would have used either a mircofibre cloth or a j cloth type thing.

Seems a bit odd mate - if it's relatively new, I'd consider contacting the retailer about it under warranty etc.

its not cleaning fluid residue which has collected dust. as mentioned have you tried wiping it off?

It cannot possibly be rust, it must be some kind of staining.

Different grades of stainless steel can rust - best check with the retailer.

It cannot possibly be rust...

Why not?

This happened to my cooker hood, and it was actually due to the fact that i had not wiped the stainless steel gel off with water properly and it ate away at the stainless steel!! What brand is your hood?

stainless steel CAN rust! i have a stainless steel shelving unit in my bathroom. the room is windowless and small so it gets really steamy and i've had to replace the shelves once because the first lot got rusty

i have seen on the tv that once stainless steel has been cleaned you can use baby oil on a cloth to wipe over it to protect it

I have to disagree, i've worked in loads of food processing factorys and all the stainless equipment gets hosed down each day.....with no sign of rust!

Also ive installed stainless trunkings and conduits....believe me at the price it costs - it doesnt rust!

Aye mate that's cause it's industrial grade stainless. The guff they sell for cooker hoods in domestic use is far poorer quality.

Correct, proper stainless steel cannot rust, cheap imitation stuff can of course.
