Standard class 'too noisy' for hard-working politicians

    news.bbc.co.uk/1/h…stm

Sir Nicholas Winterton has angrily denounced plans to reduce first-class travel by MPs - telling the BBC he needs "quiet" and privacy to work.

"But in order to be able to do that they need to be able to sit down, and you can't always do that in standard class... and you also need quiet and sadly, you don't very often get that in standard class.
"If I was in standard class I would not do work because people would be looking over your shoulder the entire time, there would be noise, there would be distraction."
"There's lots of children, there's noise, there's activity. I like to have peace and quiet when I'm travelling."

    Thoughts on this people?

    1) He should book his train to guarantee a seat and in advance too - save the tax payer money & use a rail card.
    2) Get a privacy filter on his laptop
    3) He obviously hasn't heard of the Standard Class Quiet coaches

he should pay to get to work like everyone else, if he wants first class, pay for it. simple

In my experience, 1st class is generally noisier than standard. Most of the 1st class carriages I've travelled in have been full of people who spend the whole of the journey in loud conversations on their mobile phones.

But then Sir Nicholas Winterton is a rather sad joke of an MP.

Hardly an argument. First class is better to do work in in most cases.

That's stating a view that is hard to 'argue' against - hence no argument.

I only have to pay to get to my permanent place of employment and back. Any travelling done on behalf of work is paid for by the company.

Same should apply to politicians, if it's their permanent place of employment they are travelling to and from then they should pay themselves, if it's a weekly/monthly/whatever trip to London or somewhere then it should be paid for by their employer.

It is a lot easier to work in first-class; if they called it Business Class instead it would perhaps be more appropriate and have less of a stigma attached to it...

i don't agree, being an MP is not a a gravy boat of claims anymore and neither should it be, they are not forced to be politicians.

Most people have to pay their way to travel to work so should they

people like kfc, black rat, toothy, f and f, vb21, and most of the estate lot are too dumb to get jobs as politicians

so i say let them travel first class.

If you compare MP to even middle management of a public corporation then such expenses would be allowed. I get comped business class travel and I am hardly a high flyer.
