Star Wars Despecialized Edition

So I've just been looking around the internet for the best quality version of the *Theatrical* release of Star Wars and found the best official copy available is the 2006 bonus DVD, but the quality is rather poor, even for a DVD.

But then I found this. "Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD".

Basically what these dedicated fans have done (as this is not an official release by any means) is take the video from seven different sources and painstakingly shot-by-shot piece together the highest quality possible video that mimics the theatrical release the closest, in terms of the original SFX, the original soundtrack and other things like colour balance, getting rid of George Lucas' meddling changes that have been introduced much to the disappointment of fans.

So what we have is basically a very good quality reproduction of the original theatrical release, which if you're a Star Wars fan will be very happy to hear about.

Links and info in 1st post.

My TV supports MKV luckily, so it'll be a memory stick job.

So does mine... good call!

I watched all six movies on "the day" at the start of May, so I haven't got a desire to watch again so soon. However, I'll bear this version in mind for the next anniversary date.

Thanks.

July the 13th be with you. Always.

Who shot first?

This made me laugh:

"The Jedi Spirits...

Sigh. Hayden Christiansen remains and his footage hasn't even been reshot to make him look more like he belongs in the scene and not a maximum security facility for sexual predators"

Just got the steel box bluray of the originals.

Not liking the cgi

Adywan Star wars revisited.
Is my fave, the guy's spent time, gone through frame by frame of "a new hope" and completely restored it, looks and sounds beautiful. he's apparently still working on "empire"

I prefer the CGI versions myself. The only thing I disagree with, is Hayden's ghost at the end of ROTJ as it doesn't make sense. Even Vader's added "Noooo" doesn't bother me.

Then again, I like the prequels too.

While the Special Editions do look good, IMO they stripped away the soul of the movies by using modern, and sometimes poor and unnecessary changes.

The beauty of watching the theatrical releases is you are seeing exactly what they managed to achieve in 1977 given the technology that was around at the time, which was truly groundbreaking stuff. To paste over that canvas with new effects strips that of all meaning.

Sure, remaster it so it looks cleaner and more defined, but to add stuff in that wasn't there originally and to change pivotal scenes is akin to desecration.

I suppose my influence comes from me watching them for the first time on VHS when they released the first Special Editions. That might be why I can't appreciate the old Theatrical Editions.

Try this edition, it's on par with the Blu-Ray release yet is stripped of all the CGI. Best of both worlds

I always hear about star wars.

Why is it so popular? I tried watching one of them movies once but the graphics and effects were so bad I had to switch them off.

Is the force with everyone that's a fan? Is that the source of their admiration? Should another try be given by the one?

I got the bluray boxset brand new for £30 reduced to £15 with my ebay voucher.

I watched starwars the other day and admittedly some of the effects and even darth vader seemed a bit corny. But its the magic of the series that really makes it.

Id say try and get past that and give it another shot and some of the effects still look great today.

If you were 10 in 1977 it was the best thing you'd ever seen. Even if you had already seen some breasts that did not belong to your mother.

Unfortunately I can't download the fan ones due to the file size, considering how much the official boxset of the original ones are going for on ebay I'm sure Disney will cash in on the demand at somepoint with a bluray release of the originals, thats what I'm waiting for.

"That is him," I said to my wife in the shopping centre. "That's Kenny Baker, the actor who played R2D2 in Star Wars."

"Are you sure?" she asked. "It doesn't look like him. Go on over and ask."

A couple of minutes later I walked back over to her. "Well, what did he say?"

"Nothing," I said. "It's a rubbish bin..

I understand there must be something to it otherwise it wouldn't be so popular, especially amongst the 'geeks', but how can the first movie be part 4? The order is a little strange. I will give it another go at some point, it would be unfair on the film if I didnt. May be left with some questions afterwards though, which I may have to bother you, KillFelix or Fanpages about at a future date lol.

LOL. At that age not only had I seen, but had also felt breasts (that did not belong to aforementioned mother)

I don't understand all the fuss at all. I've watched 3 series now and not seen one special effect, and who the hell is this Skywalker character? The thing I saw just had a bunch of people bidding on repossessed shipping containers.
Horses for courses I guess? I'm more of a western man myself anyway.

It sounds like you need to upgrade your TV to something like a high-end plasma mate, Star Wars looks great on my ZT65, it will cost you but it's worth it! (_;)
