Starlink customers will pay £439 for the satellite dish and other equipment needed to receive the signal. They will also need to pay a monthly fee of £84 to receive the service.

Starlink is now available in parts of Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England, in addition to existing service areas in southern England.

During beta, users can expect to see data speeds vary from 50Mb/s to 150Mb/s over the next several months as we enhance the Starlink system. There will also be brief periods of no connectivity at all.

As we launch more satellites, install more ground stations and improve our networking software, data speed, latency and uptime will improve dramatically.

To check availability for your location,visitstarlink.com and re-enter your service address. If Starlink is not yet available in your area, you can place a deposit to hold your space in line for future service.

So £439 upfront, then £84 a MONTH to receive varying speeds and the occasional outage.

I get that with Sky for £20 a month. (edited)

If you've seen any of the setting up videos on YouTube, this seems to work best if you've got wide open skies in all directions. I doubt it'd work the garden of my semi due to trees in one direction and buildings in the other. There was one UK video of someone trying to get good reception on a flat roof in a housing estate, without much success.

Also, those 1 or 2 minute service downtimes (maybe a Beta thing) won't be much inconvenience if you're just streaming, but will if you're attempting to Zoom and VOIP a lot.

I'm not sure you're the target market.

I cannot believe this is a reality. Internet at 10,725ft elevation in my off grid cabin. Thank you starlink team, you are truly changing the world. (edited)

I can beat that, I get 1.5Mb for £26 a month with frequent outages from Plusnet/BT. (edited)

It’s not designed for you, it’s designed for those in the sticks or can’t get anything more than 10mb but want something faster.

One of these could serve a remote school/library/community centre/small business. That's a solid use case right now. Wonder what the Ts & Cs are about sharing the connection?

I'm near a town and can't get fibre. There's about 15 houses in my road who are all on exchange only lines, So we can only get about 17mb and I'll definitely be looking to this when my BT contract ends. Looks pretty decent although pricey and there are dropout's most days but it is still in beta stages. The more satellites go up, the more reliable it will get.

I’m in the same position but have access to reasonable 4g speeds too. Not sure if I should drop the hammer on this or not.

Yes it's a tough one. I'd imagine over time it will get faster and more reliable. Alot of people in the UK are getting speeds of over 200mb on starlink (Going by comments on UK starlink Facebook group) I think I will go for it if we can't get fibre by November. If your on Facebook join Starlink: UK owners group as they give good insight.
