Steam generator iron - advice wanted please

I'm hoping someone can give me a few pointers. I have asked for a steam generator iron for my birthday next week (how sad am I???) and was wondering if anyone can give em some advice as what to look out for and what to avoid.
There are so many on the market and don't know what the important elements are to one. A friend told me not to get one which needed replacement cartridges? Anyone else think this is important.
Thank you so much for your help

Basically get one with the highest steam pressure that you can as that is what makes ironing easier, also try to get one with continuous steam, make sure you look at the actual iron soleplate too, I prefer either a ceramic plate or a tefal coated or even a highly poished one as they glide over the material easier. I have had 2 steam generator irons, a Morphy Richards and a Philips (my current one) although the Morphy Richards worked quite well it was very noisy to use and used to leak water all over the clothes when the temterature dropped a little, the Philips one I now have is much quieter and doesn't leak. As to whether to discount ones with replacement cartridges, my Morphy Richards had the descaling cartridges and I only had to replace it twice in the 3 1/2 years I used it, I am sure that this depends on the type of water you have however and maybe more frequent in hard water areas, we do not suffer from limescale in my area.

This is my current iron which I received through Bzzzagent for a bargain price to try it out!! As you can see it is one of the cheaper models but it still works really well.

    I have this one:

    choicebrand.co.uk/p-2…spx

Its excellent , irons both sides of the clothes at once, and has a safety guard which I push over whenever I step away from it so the kids can't accidently burn themselves.

Would recommend it, but still hate ironing :x

+1 I have this too and can't fault it

It's maybe a bit sad for your birthday present, but now I feel reassured about asking for a tall fridge for my first Eid present and the matching tall freezer as my 2nd Eid present! :giggle:

Looks great. Have you ever used choicebrand before? It has mixed reviews but for an iron which is half the price I don't care about the box

    Hi there
I was recently considering one of these steam generators too and came across this article on the Daily Mail which you may also find useful

If you trust their review the Philips GC8220 Pressurised Steam System Iron scored very well and at £129.99 I think is not too bad either! ]http//ww…8-4
