Steam question

I know steam is a free program and then you, pay to download and play the games, I was just wondering if it is ok to sell a steam account onto somebody else. I have about 30 games in my steam account which I no longer want, just want to know if its ok to sell a steam account and provide the buyer with the account name and password.

Nope, unfortunately you're not allowed to sell or trade an account.

    From the Steam website:

    Buying, Selling, or Trading Accounts

Accounts which have been bought, sold, or traded will be permanently disabled.

From the Subscriber Agreement you would have agreed to when signing up to use Steam:

"You are entitled to use the Steam Software for your own use, but you are not entitled to: (i) sell, grant a security interest in or transfer reproductions of the Steam Software to other parties in any way, nor to rent, lease or license the Steam Software to others without the prior written consent of Valve; (ii) host or provide matchmaking services for the Steam Software or emulate or redirect the communication protocols used by Valve in any network feature of the Steam Software, through protocol emulation, tunneling, modifying or adding components to the Steam Software, use of a utility program or any other techniques now known or hereafter developed, for any purpose including, but not limited to network play over the Internet, network play utilizing commercial or non-commercial gaming networks or as part of content aggregation networks, without the prior written consent of Valve; or (iii) exploit the Steam Software or any of its parts for any commercial purpose."

Edited to add: Having said all that, I am not sure how they would know that you have sold an account if you do it privately, seeing as you are free to play your games from any computer.

When the Orange Box was released, if you already owned one or more of the games that it came with, you could give the duplicate version away as a Steam Gift. This allowed the person to download a copy of the game for free from Steam. Under Valve's T&Cs, these Gift Subscriptions were not meant to be sold, but obviously some people did.

steam is an application that pulls together games from different developers but mainly Valve. It has many other features and you can get a steam account with any Valve game. Even Half-Life which must cost £1 now.

The value is in the games owned in the steam account.

Valve might say, you can't sell it on, but people do and they haven't been struck down by lightining

however, if you fancy giving the online game a go, www.Wireplay.co.uk is a nice friendly place with great servers
